Mudhoney - Digital Garbage
54

I'm not one to be a SJW or harp on political correctness, but I find this album troublesome at best. I understand that the band is going for an ironic hyperbolization of sensitive issues like alt-right conspiracy theories, xenophobia, mass shootings, teen suicide, and climate change. It's even likely that this band and I would vote on the same side of the ballot on many issues. However, I worry that the subjects of these criticisms will only feel validated while these songs contribute to a ... read more

Night Beds - Ivywild
69

Sonically impressive, yet a lyrical let down. Perhaps with the brilliance of Country Sleep setting the bar so high, it's difficult to truly appreciate Ivywild in comparison.

Body/Head - Coming Apart
62

The approach is bold, the effect even powerful, but the amount of dissonance permeating this album on every level--vocals, guitar work, effects--is staggering. Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport

One might not expect too much from a band with a name like Fuck Buttons, and the electronic noise at first may leave those with more delicate listening habits inclined to turn away. However, this album when stuck with couldn't be more rewarding with its gradual builds and epic soundscapes. RIYL The Field, Dan Deacon, and The Chemical Brothers.

The Virgins - Strike Gently

After a hiatus of about 4 years since their last release, the music from The Virgins new record sounds almost as if from another band... or another decade. On Strike Gently, they hit a very distinctive retro, Dire Straights-like vibe. The style or certain tracks may be hit-or-miss for some, but the standout tracks--such as opener "Prima Materia," "Flashbacks, Memories, And Dreams," and "Travel Express (From Me)"--are phenomenal. Pay attention to the guitar work to ... read more

The Ruby Suns - Christopher
44

Chock full of cliches and half-baked platitudes, any strictly musical value to the album is immediately overshadowed by its unignorably feeble lyricism

Adam Lambert - Trespassing

I would give this album a higher rating (though not by much), but i can't respect an artist whose handlers go on such an obvious and unscrupulous pr blitzkrieg.

alt-J - An Awesome Wave

An album so rich in sound and meaning, referencing cult classics, quoting other artists, and recounting stories of tragic romance--all so poetically written and accompanied by such a unique and beautiful sound. Best album out this year.

"Are you right? No you're not. :) Specifically, this isn't her debut album, Not An Apology was. Not terrible for a sophomore effort though"
