Pinned Review

Richard Sallis - Casino
92

CASINO, the 16-year project by Richard Sallis has officially released into the world! Featuring a *huge* team effort, this project actually sounds a bit different compared to his last album (Felix) but it absolutely shattered the expectations of what I thought I'd be listening to, and built upon everything Felix had set-up.

CASINO was written during an incredibly dark period in Sallis' life, during his teenage years — now, with professional recording and tweaking and the like, ... read more

The Fray - A Light That Waits
67

If you visualize The Fray as a human being, they're definitely an interesting person. Their whole life seems to revolve around love, and only the one commercial brand of it.

The point of A Light That Awaits isn't to provoke thought, or challenge the listener, and anyone who's ever listened to The Fray aren't shocked by this. They make music that will inevitably be playing in a grocery store while a cashier clocks into work during the afternoon rush.

That doesn't mean ... read more

WILLOW - petal rock black

Why release this?

This 'album' feels more like a compilation of songs more than anything. There's no theme, overarching story or really any consistency. The styles differ harshly, and each song isn't given anytime to shine at all.

The songs that may have potential are left to be under 2 minutes long, sometimes barely reaching the 1:00 mark. The songs that are developed are developed poorly, almost like someone just looped the same tracks over and over. The long solo tracks ... read more

Joji - Piss In The Wind
40

I cannot say and truly believe that Joji cares about his fans after listening to this album. I want to believe he is an artist who cares deeply about his fans and the music he creates, but what we've seen from him is quite literally a music devolution. After not releasing anything for years, keeping his fans waiting, he releases what is essentially an unfinished demo tape.

These songs have no cohesiveness and are all over the place, in a negative way. There's no quirkiness or ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb

8 years btw

I think we're all aware of you hype something up for years and years and years, it's never going to live up to the hype. Some of the stuff on here is really electric, catchy and almost more psychedelic? Which I definitely vibe more with; however, some of these tracks are just big flops in my opinion. I'm sure I'd be happier with the album as a whole if it wasn't being outrageously hyped up for years, it creates a standard that's not possible. Overall, ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION

In a world that's filled to the brim right now with oversaturation, finding pop music that resonates with me and that I don't find numb and boring has been a difficult task.

When I first saw this album, I was really confused why it had such a high rating. Call me Maybe certainly wasn't the epitome of pop for me, so I had written this album off as a favorite for die-hard fans.

However, I was very wrong! This album packs a serious punch, every song just as catchy as the last and ... read more
