Björk - Pagan Poetry

I had an actual spiritual experience at 3am while making hummus hearing this song for the first time a few years ago. My memory sucks but thats burnt in. The only thing keeping it from being 100 is the outro but otherwise holy shit I Love This Song

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper

god damn I had high expectations for this, and god damn he exceeded them

it feels like someone scooped out their soul and offered it on a plate in music form
Casper might be one of the best songs I've ever heard

PinkPantheress - Fancy That

I'm pretty sick rn and it's making me (more) depressed but miraculously this album actually made me feel positive emotions and helped me forget stuff. I adore the blend of genres and the melodies are soooo addictive. Only thing that could improve this is longer songs.

Lorde - Virgin

This feels extremely 2016. The climaxes and "drops" feel like wet noodles. The pop girlies have the insurance of rabid fanbases who will defend anything they do, so why have so many pop releases lately been straight up boring? Where are the fresh ideas?

Edit: An example of a wet noodle drop is What Was That at 1:10. I laughed out loud at that sad baby elephant sounding synth. Fr what was that?

Ethel Cain - Nettles

Americana isn’t usually for me but wow, what a beautiful song. The production feels like laying in grass on a windy day. The runtime is perfect. Hell yeah

Swans - Birthing

This felt like I was drowning in concrete. Needed a nap straight after. Amazing

black midi - Hellfire

A few thoughts:
-This entire album would’ve been nutty on guitar hero
-I prefer the Greep songs but it might just be cos I love The New Sound
-Holy shit I never knew auctioneercore would sound so great

Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around

I'd like to post a few quotes from my thoughts I had while listening because I feel like they sum up my feelings about the album well.

"I really prefer the Trent Reznor version of Hurt. However this is still great and I could see myself preferring this version when I relate to the vibe more. I see why people like it SO much.
Time moves really fucking slow when I listen to this guy. Am I trying to convince myself that I like it? I dunno loll we'll see

Selena Gomez - I Said I Love You First

It's only 34 minutes long yet somehow it drags on. It's all very cookie cutter pop with generic lyrics. Her voice doesn't have much personality to it.

Sunset Blvd made me laugh out loud, I feel like Selena Gomez doesn't have that type of charisma for that type of song. The song Cowboy has nice production. Bluest Flame is fine, productions cool, I wasn't surprised to see Charli xcx wrote it because it feels like a Charli song. A ballad after that feels like a weird ... read more

Geordie Greep - The New Sound

Ah, the album that was basically made for me in a lab. I grew up listening to Frank Zappa via my mum but his music is associated with awful memories now so I was hoping to find something to scratch that exact itch, and this nails it and then some.

Another thing that makes this album absolutely HIT for me is that I was a sex worker for a few years. I had this same kind of feeling of "wtf goes through your brain to make these elaborate fantasies and ask someone else to act them out" ... read more

Röyksopp - Junior

Ooh this is gorgeous sounding from the first song, those crunchy synths are almost orgasmic. this feels like it could've been an inspiration for Imaginal Disk.
The Girl and the Robot was cool, i don't know shit about music theory but it feels like the chords didn't go in directions i expected and i love that.
Vision One's bass line oh my god that's a fucking good sound
Royksopp Forever is gorgeous
Tricky Tricky would've been better without vocals I think

Lady Gaga - MAYHEM

I wasn't super impressed. Whatever she's doing with her voice hurts my ears, like at the start of Vanish Into You. I know she can sound good so what's she doing?

There was some fun production, I think my favourite part of the album was the end of Killah. I'm getting pretty sick of artists getting their pop inspiration from the 80s though.

The ballads were boring especially knowing she can write a song like Speechless.

Damn people really love this album huh? I'm sorry but that man screeching in my ears for 80 minutes made me not want to listen to music for a few days after. This is like when you're a kid and it feels like all the adults are pretending to like the taste of beer. Also Sick Again should be unreleased, fuck that song

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

The first time I listened to a song off this album it actually made me a little angry because fuuuuuck I wish I could make that.

My favourite parts of the album are:
-The interesting structures
-The basslines oh man the basslines
-When the bass gets crunchy
-How detailed and layered the production is
-The sequencing of the tracks
-Mica's voice and the lyrics
-It feels like an entire movie in my head even though I have aphantasia

I don't know if I could come up with any negatives

Chappell Roan - The Giver

I fucking loved Midwest Princess and I think this is a step down from it.

The things I like:
-The subject matter. Topping anthem, I love you lesbians <3

The things I dislike:
-The genre
-How basic it sounds
-The bridge
-It doesn't feel very dynamic
-It's sticky enough to get stuck in my head for days but it's not interesting enough for that to be a good thing
