The Queen is Dead shows the Smiths pushing their boundaries as an indie rock band to become the critically acclaimed band they are today. Morrissey's dark but satirical lyrics and Johnny Marr's guitar riffs mesh perfectly together to form an amazing post-punk sound. This album is known as one of the greatest albums of all time, which I don't really understand. It has a lot of good songs (Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Something In The Way), but also a lot of filler (Stay Away, Polly). I understand that it started an entire movement of grunge, but there were already grunge bands before Nirvana, they just weren't as popular. I've never heard any noise rock before but this was definitely a good start. Thurston Moore's abstract guitar sounds really help to make this album an interesting listen and Teen Age Riot is a fantastic song and so is A) The Wonder. Some of the lines are a little cheesy but that's a product of the times (it's an '80s album). Overall this album was an intriguing listen and I would definitely hear it again.
