Eminem - The Eminem Show
90

I think I get this one now.

Initially my least favorite of Slim Shady's big three albums, many would consider The Eminem Show his best of all time. I'd still give mmlp the edge personally, but on an objective scale, this might be Eminem's most rounded and polished album yet. This is best shown through his lyricism. It hits the perfect balance of everything you could like about Eminem. Clean, natural flows and rhymes. A mix of comical bars, heartfelt moments, and scathing ... read more

R.I.P Sam Rivers

No shit this is better than Korn self titled. Wes Borlands riffs carry so much energy. The whole album is a constant onslaught of sound That rarely lets up. I don't have any problems with letting a band be fun and stupid... then Fred Durst opens his mouth. He's a pretty insufferable rapper, but not the worst screamer. He doesn't ruin the album, but certainly brings it down. By Faith it starts to lose me. I hoped Everything would save it, but it's overly ... read more

Laufey - Everything I Know About Love
86

Such a beautiful album. Laufey has an amazingly gentle and soothing voice that makes these tracks shine. Almost enough to hide the fact that the first 8 tracks are basically the same. I'm willing to forgive that though. The first 4 or 5 tracks and the title track onwards are still really strong. The lyrical writing also hits well.

Steve Lacy - Gemini Rights

Really good. A modern and polished take on classical styles, with great vocals throughout. However it does lack consistency, carrying a few duds. The full experience isn't tied together as well as it could be.

Favorites: Mercury, Bad Habit, Helmet, Sunshine

Least Favorites: Static, Cody Freestyle

AJR - What No One's Thinking

It's ok.

I don't feel like hating AJR anymore. I will probably never give an album of theirs a green score and that's fine. They've been improving. They try new things. They have an audience. I'm just not in it, and that's ok. I can ultimately respect them, and I hope more people can do that.

Moe Shop - EVO EVO
82

With this being the first Moe Shop ep in 7 years, along with Moe Moe being the predecessor, EVO EVO has big shoes to fill. And as far as my first impressions go, They made some solid work here.

I always think a Moe Shop song is well produced and then he just keeps producing better and better with every new song he makes. Each mix on this ep is incredibly clean and balanced. Compared to Moe Moe's cutesy pastel aesthetic, EVO EVO leans into a futuristic, digital disco sounds. It's a ... read more

You know when you come across an album so good that it makes you wish you could describe why you like music better?

Actually though, Moe Moe is masterful front to back. I struggle to see how EVO EVO could top this.

Moe Shop - Moshi Moshi

Admittedly, I haven't listened to this ep all too much after my first listen, but it' essentially an improved version of Pure Pure in all accounts. Yet it's rated lower for some reason... oh yeah. Superstar.

Hentai dude manages to be even worse then he was in Love Taste, but the beat is absolute fire. don't say otherwise. hatred is valid though.

Moe Shop - Pure Pure

Nearly a decade old, but Moe Shops first ep is solid work. Future works had a more stylized sound and cleaner production, but each song on here brings a decent catchy sound. I wish the vocal lines could have been better. That gave Moe Shops other music like Moe Moe a lot more substance for me. the opener in particular is genuinely fantastic though and it far outshines the rest to me.

The Living Tombstone Solos 99% of musicians

I get the vocoder hate and the disdain for the lyrics. Personally I never minded Tlts vocoders, but their lyrics have always been very blunt and straightforward. Sometimes this works, I think the chorus is super well written here, but the verses are awfully shallow. But past those two issues, you get one Yoavs most well made beats ever. The flute sample fits perfectly and Sam Haft has one of his best vocal performances ever. 10/10

Moe Shop - TIMEOUT

Very solid lead single. It's similar to Moe Moe in style but more disco with a more futuristic digital vibe. I Foresee this growing on me substantially. Consider any doubts I had about Evo Evo gone.

Edit: Has in fact grown on me. Incredibly clean mix from Moe Shop, and the vocalist fits the antisocial lyrics, which are so simple, yet satisfying.

Jackson Reid - Good Night

Recommended by... actually I think you know who. It is my first rec on here so I'd say it's worth honoring.

Pleasant, calming, airy pop music. The production is clean and dream ike, paired with pretty decent vocals to boot, but that's kind of it. I'd like to say more, but there's nothing else to say. Decent niche project that lacks a real standout song or moment.

The Living Tombstone - Rust

(Re-review)
I do feel like there’s some solid stuff on Rust, but I have to stop glazing and accept that this is a sophomore slump.

The Easiest way to describe the problem with Rust is that it’s hasty. After a near 5 year gap between albums, we get less than 30 minutes of content? Not a single song crosses the 3 minute mark, which leaves the majority of these songs feeling unfinished because they end before they get a chance to go somewhere. Kill Us All is a good example. ... read more

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

25 years! :)

After some time, this has become not only my favorite Eminem album, but one of my favorite albums ever... in an admittedly small pile of albums listened to. I don't even know where to begin.

Let's start with the whole vibe of this album. MMLP is some of Eminem's most explicit and eerie music. Horrorcore at its purest. Despite relatively basic sounds, it feels distinct. Every element of the instrumentals sound clean and balanced, but also simultaneously cheap and ... read more

It's a remix album by 10 different producers. It's bound to be wildly inconsistent, even as a Zero_one glazer. There are some interesting takes on songs though.

The Living Tombstone - Orphans

I’ve already heard the demo to this one before. The beat drop is cool, but it feels pretty overproduced. The chorus in particular. For once, the vibe does line up with another one of the singles, Be Alone. Still needlessly short though.

Just drop the album already. Please

The Living Tombstone - zero_one

I figured I should re-review this album before Rust drops, so here goes.

So this isn't a masterpiece by any stretch. Actually the album displays a fair amount of flaws. cohesion is a big one. Zero_one actually does have a full story behind it, but it really doesn't feel like it for half the album. Supposedly, the story is about some average aspiring music artist who eventually fuses with the symbiote Zero_one and he quickly regrets it. The opening track and tracks 7-10 actually feel ... read more

The Living Tombstone - Malibu Pier

It's not as offensive as I Walk Ahead Of You, it's not as good as Be Alone, but all in all, these singles feel stylistically inconsistent with each other and they're all really short. I hate to say it, but I can't see Rust being anymore than a downgrade.

The Living Tombstone - I Walk Ahead Of You

What happened???

The instrumental is mixed alright. I find it pretty typical for Yoav. But it's that the Instrumental sounds like it was made 10 years ago. And the vocals are horribly over processed and un-harmonic This single also inherits some of the problems of Be Alone. It's very short in it's length and surface level in it's commentary.

I'm also a bit worried on the cohesion of Rust. Half of Zero_one was connected by threads, and I was hoping they would address ... read more

MF DOOM - Operation: Doomsday

It's exactly what you see on the tin. MF DOOM spitting crazy bars over jazzy beats for an hour. The peaks of Operation Doomsday are great, and the lows still have quality. The flows get repetitive though, production is inconsistent.

Best: Doomsday, Rhymes Like Dimes, Red And Gold, ?

Worst: Tick, Tick...
