damn peggy (sad).

I feel like there's some great artistic statement to be made about half the instrumentals being really metal-centric (a genre historically criticized for tearing apart society's moral fiber, much like rap is by modern conservatives) and half being these heavenly beats that just pull you through the roof, but I've been too distracted listening to them to really parse it out. It's good. There's been a shift in the hip-hop landscape production-wise to ... read more

Porter can harmonize with himself on a freestyle and that's why he's the GOAT!!!!!!!!!!

2024 really is the year of the country boy. Billy manages to deliver a genuinely phenomenal country album that has the type of substance that you find in the genre's best. As a fan of Americana, Bluegrass, Folk, and generally all things American country music, it makes me happy that newer acts are returning to the genre's roots and delivering some of the best storytelling and commentary that wouldn't be out of place on a Dylan or Nelson project. I know that people will skip this ... read more

Contrasted with the quieter, more airy moments of thin synthesizer and piano passages, A Lonely Sinner can give you everything. If I were to give a complaint to this album, it would be that there are some ideas that aren't really explored to their full potential or are explored ... read more

Fog - Thirty Three, Recurring

Fog manages to synthesize sonic anxiety on 33. This is definitely some of the most experimental jazz you will hear this year (full disclosure, I haven't heard Fire!'s new record yet). Despite that, and what other reviewers have said, this album is not just a sound collage; it's actually exceptionally musical and, at times, melodic, despite how atonal it consistently is, and how free the time may seem. This formula results in what sounds like a thick, translucent wall of the ugliest shade of ... read more
