what is special about this?
nas is a great rapper but this feels like its already been cooked up
had me so scared there for a minute.
21 Savage returns with his new album with a really wacky album cover. Going into this, I was really scared given the recent results that have come out of the mainstream rap scene recently, but I was pleased when the first song was actually listenable and the production wasn't terrible. Still pretty middling given highs that 21 has reached in the past with songs on i am > i was and without warning (and some of his feature work). Then I got to the ... read more
Split on this. Young Thug definitely fell off significantly and some of these songs are absolutely terrible, like Mami, and Whoopty Doo, and there are a lot of underwhelming songs. Some highlights are Pardon My Back, Walk Down, Pipe Down, Money on Money, and On the News with Cardi B; but some of these are pretty strong and might be things I come back to. Overall pretty underwhelming, but not as bad as some claim.
I think this is the best album of all time.
I'm being completely serious. I've spun it through seven times since it's release, and it keeps getting better and better. It's really remarkable to see Quadeca's whole transformation as an artist and I think all these soundscapes he's delving into are only improving his artistry and our listening experiences.
We start with a very rich and dense and intense song in No Questions Asked, where Quadeca is really emulating a ... read more
I don't understand why this is so low.
Perfect album from start to finish.
i'm sorry this is fantastic
chance is flowing so hard and the hook is really fun and playful!
lil wayne goes really hard as well
JID WHY BRO 32 FREESTYLE WAS SO GOOD
When your best song objectively has an AI feature, you know the album isn't particularly great.
JID has his moments of ingenuity but so many beats and the Yachty song are awful.
Interesting song! I think it's decent, but I love Dave and Central Cee's wordplay and they have undeniable chemistry together. Even though the beat's quite simplistic and the song sounds derivative, their wordplay sets them apart from the crowd.
What happened to Lil Wayne? This was so underwhelming to listen to.
Many people are saying that the first half of this albums is quite good, but I don't even agree with that. I only enjoyed three songs on this, Welcome to Tha Carter, Hip-Hop, and Island Holiday. It feels like he just gave up after two songs and threw random ideas in his head at the wall just to see what worked. Felt quite lazy. Also that Jelly Roll hook is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever heard in a Lil Wayne ... read more
Fantastic album from start to finish. The instrumentals are gleaming over this entire record and he's often SPITTING on these very multilayered beats. The instrumentation on the first song is especially nice and over the entire album there are some great refrains. The run-time is perfect and his voice is apt to the point where it can dominate over the instrumentals but still mesh with them in a cohesive way.
The only song that I disliked only a bit was Crooked Stick, where it feels like ... read more
