Sounds like KAYTRA kept all the good beats for himself; Justine Skye has a pretty interesting voice honestly, but the music gets generic rather fast on this EP.
FAVORITE: Ear Candy
Inferno embodies something that is completely and utterly inhuman; evoked by mechanical drums, massively processed and distorted vocal samples, and sounds that intentionally heavily clash with each others, the world we witness here is a postapocalyptic one, one that is being taken over by some other life form. The numerous religious references makes us feel like we don't belong in this world, like the music is some sort of ritual that must be hidden from humans, that operates on a ... read more
It sounds like to me like it's taking a lot of inspirations from the pop of the 2010s, with its snappy melodies and nostalgic sound design, even for its ultramodern hyperpop-like production, and BRAT-esque vocals. Another artist reaching its full potential by breaking free from their label barriers; a common theme these days, love to see it.
FAVORITES: Detour; I Like Ur Look; Need For Speed; Jeep; Freak It
This is quite a change of pace from what I'm used to from JPEGMAFIA, going now for a quick riffle of short sonic experiments; even though not every single ideas truly sticks, I do still think it is a respectable effort from Peggy; his ability - for which I really like his music - to integrate such unexpected shifts and crazy weird sampling into his beats is still put at the heart of this project, it's just being packaged in a messier way than usual.

It sounds like they had a lot of fun making this album, they're playfully drifting into various different genres; we first started off with some emblematic psych rock ragers like the great opener 'Salsa Verde' for example, but later on we got some more funkier cuts like 'Japan' and 'Texas Rangers', which happily surprised me, easily my favorite tracks on the project, then we got a little country detour with 'Looniversal', and we're finishing off ... read more
Portugal. The Man spice up their indie pop sound with heavier psych rock, and I think it works well for them; some songs make them sound a bit like MGMT I feel like, songs like 'Knik' or 'Tanana', with really loud and compressed and weird vocal parts, but with a catchy foundation under it. Definitely a step up from their last project.
FAVORITES: Angoon; Knik; Kokhanockers; Tanana
First, Music Has the Right to Children, and now, Music made by childrens; I feel like the immersive quality that previous BoC projects were embodying is missing on this particular album. I think individually some tracks work fine, and offer some nice melodic ideas as well as high-end sound design, I’m thinking of ‘Cold Earth’ and ‘Nothing Is Real’ for example, but I can’t see the vision as a whole. I’m also not quite a fan of such stiff metallicy drum ... read more
The production is way too sharp and buzzy for me here, it completely wrecks it. This sounds to me like being loud for the sake of being loud, instead of being loud to make an impact, I'm not even kidding this must break the world record for loudest mastering ever. I enjoyed 'BURNMATERIAL' as it was reminding me of Porter Robinson, but then again, I feel like it was butchered by the horribly abrasive production. Frankly I was barely able to finish that 27-minutes ... read more
I think there's a problem with my spacecraft I was somehow still entering Planet Frog on track 8.
Some of the coolest beats I've heard in a while; it's uneven and deconstructed, but in a very satisfying way, and they just show really great musicianship. I really like the electric guitar on 'LEBRON HENNESSEY' or 'MANDEM' for instance, the beat on that one is straight out of a Casiopea album. I do wish some of them could've been developed a bit further, as ... read more
ICEMAN isn't as terrible as some other stuff I've heard from Drake; I would even go as far as saying that some of his beats are pretty entertaining on this album, the beats on 'Make Them Pay' or 'What Did I Miss?' mainly. But all in all, it is still suffering from the same thing as all the other projects: Drake. It's like he can't help but complain in the most boring ways possible.
FAVORITES: Make Them Pay; What Did I Miss?

I think all around it still is a slight improvement from his previous album. I like Genesis Owusu's lyrics and his perspective on the subjects he addresses on here; he encourages a point of view that is really focused on positive things we can do and ways we can heal even amidst the terrible state of the world, I respect that. It's not every moment that feels absolutely necessary in my opinion, but it sure got some great high energy bops. And a handful of great Elon diss too: ... read more
Probably the most insane sample collages I've ever come across; I can't even begin to imagine how does one come up with that kind of stuff. It is just so packed, so saturated, but somehow Jane Remover's craft comes together on these messy edits of choppy samples.
FAVORITES: ...LIKE WATCHING A ZOMBIE TURN; NOTHING LASTS FOREVER (EVERY DETAIL U HAVE EVER TOLD ME); RIGHT NOWWW (TEAR ME APART); GET UGLY; Summer Fling
Oh yes, I vibe with that; on this EP Master Peace goes for a very blown-out indie rock sound, with light-minded lyrics and just very catchy vocal melodies. They brought that sound very assertively and it works really well for them.
FAVORITES: There's No More Underground; Spin The Block; Fuck It Up
This immediate follow-up to are you lonely? doesn't seem to bother me as much as that album did; even though the pacing is still very raw and messy, I think here we're following more structured and finished ideas; her songwriting is also more focused, with lyrics revolving around her self-image and how people seem to see her. Tracks like 'identity theft.' or 'loser.' are reminding me a bit more of what I liked on 20.
