the vast majority of the depth comes from lyrics and texture but when the track hits, it HITS like nothing else ive ever heard. god, this is the pinnacle of 2024 music, jumps up to tie my AOTY contender
Every track feels like a painting being created in front of me using the noise and poetry. It's something I have never heard before and gets an incredibly high ranking for a reason unique to the other albums I rate to as highly.
Actually shocked by what this goofy band presents here. God damn, what an amazing album. Reminds me of Primus and SOAD.
I'll be amazed if there's a better metalcore record this year
Gorgeous EP, goes up as another one of my absolute favorite things to release this year. The childlike wonder and the writing of every thought goes so far and makes me shed a tear.
Tracks 1, 2, 4 and 5 create gorgeous "foreground noise", ambient music that has a lo-fi electronic quality but doesnt allow itself to be ignored. XNOR XNOR XNOR is the obvious stand out track - it's a masterpiece, it's what we're all here for, but I also wanted to give a honorable mention to The Divine Comedy. I adore the chopped vocal samples combined with the ambience.
easily an album of the year for me as of april, the entire album is absolutely beauitful, mixed right to my taste, I feel like I am floating, and godspeed made me ascend. everything about this project entirely blew me away, I adore it and will be returning to it
Incredibly entertaining album. If Igorrr is over the top or silly, this is complete absurdity. Jean-Pierre opens the album with HEAVY guitar, drums, electronics and choppy scream samples, all edited to all hell. The five minutes are absolutely filled with pure energy and a constant onslaught of new content. Every following track continues this idea of taking one idea and pushing it to the extreme, and of course including tons of silly elements. The last few tracks are a little forgettable, ... read more
Easy AOTY contender for me. Incredibly emotional instrumental project. The entire listen is a full, engaging sensory experience.
Favorite track: you'll be on the carpet
Discovered this as a child and it had changed my life forever. I return to it sometimes and it never fails to be one of the best projects I've heard to date. No matter how much I grow and change, this stays with me, and I could not be prouder that this is the album that does it for me.
Incredibly catchy experimental prog. A massive step up from Awry Ascent, really managing to make every song unique and always worth a listen. They keep a similar tone, and a lot of the album is very introspective and full of self loathing by the main character - the story is way harder to follow (I found it confusingly stagnant) than any other piece in this project, but wow every bit of it is just so groovy. Also the best ending song of the project, though every other is extremely close behind.
This is the most powerful Hungry Light album, it keeps a rather melancholic tone compared to the rest of the project but perfectly slips in incredibly impactful highs. It cannot match the catchiness of Three Gods & Me, but instead forms an amazing atmosphere and creates a whirlpool of emotion, especially if you grasp the story.
Hip-hop metal, strongest storytelling of the hungry lights project. It nails both the heights of absolute triumph and utter defeat. Every song is peak, my favorite must be Finally Fearless as of now, but everything deserves praise.
Great album, the tracks do a great job turning my body into red mist like cybergrind should. The outside influences such as soulkeeper work here incredibly well.
Love the first 7 tracks with a passion. The combination of confusing guitar riffs, incredible drumming and heavenly melodies keep me coming back. Set & Setting and especially Sleight In Shadows use this format in ways that have me ascending. Wish the final three tracks were spread throughout to help the pacing not hit a dead stop at the end. They still provide an incredible experience, just maybe misplaced in the listing.
