What an incredible return to form from Deafheaven with this new record. This is easily their best record since Sunbather. It’s insane how they released a crazy good album like this right after releasing by far their worst project. This thing has an insane bite to it. It’s super aggressive and the band sounds revitalized almost. Super heavy riffs, dissonant production, pounding drums, this album is absolutely in your face. It does feature a few more melodic and laid back moments, but ... read more
SPELLLING has come out with another solid record, but has yet again failed to reach the heights of The Turning Wheel. While still a decent effort, the album feels like a bit of a mixed bag. The big standout of the record is by far the mixing. The way that they’ve layered together the instrumentals and combined several different styles created a captivating and impressive sound. The vocals are the main detractor of a few of these tracks. While some of her performances are absolutely ... read more
Dude, what the fuck has happened to you Boldy? This is just more lazily written bars spit over horribly derivative trap beats just like Permanent Ink was. We’re 3 months into the year, and this is his 4th subpar release. Please for the love of god take some time off to clear your head and think through your next project for more than 5 minutes before you drop it. Seriously, this is like the most minuscule amount more tolerable than Permanent Ink was, and that was easily his worst album of ... read more
Japan is really cooking up some great music this year. They’ve been on an absolute roll. This record is a beautiful piece of work. The production sounds so clean and clear, and the performances are incredible. Eiko’s voice is absolutely beautiful as she singe over some gorgeous instrumentals that at some moments almost sound like they have a tinge of jazz to them. The drum work specifically is where a lot of the faint jazzy elements come from for me, and they sound great. Drums and ... read more
This was honestly a pretty disappointing release. Montero was a rock solid debut album with some super catchy and fun songs. This I assume is a preview or a lead up to his next record, and it doesn’t have any of those elements on most of the tracks. Firstly, this EP feels a bit forced. Considering his album is set to be called Dreamboy and there’s a song on here called Dreamboy this must be a good chunk of the track list for the full album. I just don’t really get why ... read more
