ROSÉ's much anticipated solo project after her global hit single APT left me expecting a upbeat album full of hits.
It did not really deliver in that aspect. Most songs rather go in the sad love-song direction, which while I really enjoy 'number one girl', left many of the songs sounding almost the same and inoffrnsive. Still I do enjoy most songs on the album, and appreciate ROSÉ giving us a more personal insight into herself but I would lie if I said it did not ... read more
While I honestly expected the album to be quite bad after the Vultures run with Kanye West, I got positively surprised by the album. Positively surprised does not mean good unfortunately. The amount of amazing feature artists on this list did not save it from having a very average performance throughout the first half and a disappointing second half. All In, Smile Body Pretty Face and Harder were quite bad and many of the "supposed to be hits" songs like Tycoon$ and Twitch were ... read more
While Rosalia has been among my favorite artists for years, the amazing orchestral performances on this album, her angelic voice, her diverse cultural influences, her linguistic versitility will leave anyone listening breathless. My personal favorite songs are Magnolias, Porcelana, Mio Cristo Piange Diamanti, Divinize, and Dios es un Stalker but the album really does not contain any misses. This album sets an unheard of standard for albums of any genre and style.
The only critic I can think of ... read more
RIP Pop Smoke. My most listened to artist of all time, every Pop Smoke album is a hit for me. Highlights like Gangstas, Got it on me and Dior and even the melodic What you know bout love will stay in rotation until today. Something Special was the first song I ever sang for my first girlfriend.
Still the album is quite bloated at certain points and some of the features don't quite deliver. Also while of course not expected from a Pop Smoke album, do not expect deep lyrical content.
Still, ... read more
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is my favorite album of all time. No album has ever blown me away and touched me the way this album has. I still remember my first listen to this album like it was yesterday. I remember the bus ride with tears in my eyes.
United in Grief, Die Hard, N95, Father Time and Count Me Out will forever stay amongst my favorite songs of all time.
We Cry Together was a cinematic experience that I still know how to sing (or rather shout) word for word. Everybody that has ... read more
BULLY is a huge step in the right direction after the wreck that was the Vultures series and the abysmal songs released inbetween that made me want to rip my ears out. Improvement does not mean greatness. Many songs like WHITE LINES, WHATEVER WORKS, SISTERS AND BROTHERS, and CIRCLES sound unfinished and Kanye's strange choices and horrible Spanish on Last Breath make me wonder if we haven't learned from Drake's Meet your padre.
The album remains an unfinished mess and exceeding ... read more
This album is horror broken down into rap music. The experience of first listening to GOLLIWOG is unlike anything I have ever experienced.
The dystopian world described is chilling to the bones.
Containing no actual misses and showing highlights in Waterproof Mascara, Corinthians, and STAR87 with amazing Conductor Williams production lead to an unforgettable experience.
Octane is fun and energetic at some parts, tired and boring at others.
While I love songs like Excavator and I personally really enjoyed Body, Pleasure's Mine, ATM, Rendezvous and E85, songs like Tuition and Secondhand are boring and uninspired.
I really did not enjoy Sweet Home.
Don Toliver fails to show much of his vocal talent and range we are used to from previous albums.
While not living up to my expectations, the numerous fun hits keep the album as quite enjoyable.
Don't Be Dumb suffers under mainly one thing. The expectations regarding the album. While being experimental and ambitious, it does not live up to the incredibly long wait and hype surrounding the album. I personally enjoyed many of the singles released in the first real rollout period more than the actual songs on the album. Again in the actual rollout for the album the initial singles shined the most on the album.
Very solid but not overly impressive
IDK does what IDK does well. Witz great consistency in his rapping, production and features the album shines front to back. P.O and LiVE 4 a LiVE are my personal highlights on the album but all songs would be viable contenders.
Let me start by saying, for the wait and years of Cole hyping this album up it left me kind of disappointed.
While the rapping is mostly great or even amazing J Cole disappoints almost every time he tries to sing. He further seems stuck between trying to be humble and flexing at every spot. Also all his lines about being the uncontested best are not hitting the same after the apology in his brief feud with Kendrick Lamar, with Cole now being battle proven and having performed catastrophically. ... read more
Following up SKAI ISYOURGOD's newly found success in the west, this album brings other Cantonese artists with him to the foreground with the group 伍條柒. The album delivers high energy songs with all the five rappers sharing and exchanging spotlights on the album. The first 4 songs on the album are easily the highlight on the album, with quality dropping on the second half.
The second verse on 爆头 is the biggest highlight on the Album.
抽水佬 is the only very positive exception ... read more
Masiwei has returned with another album full of hits. 'Switch Room', 'Uh Uh Uh', 'Pop Music' and 'Rendez Vous' have stayed in my personal rotation since the album released. Taking inspiration from many of the more agressive rage, oldschool and more melodic rapper in the west, Masiwei keeps bringing his diverse talent to the Chinese market.
The only thing this album lacks is a clear concept but performs in all styles.
Ca$ino shows a more introspective side to Baby Keem, talking about his childhood and growing up. While having many deep songs it does not miss out on hype songs that we are used to from Keem.
The worst part about this album is the long wait we had to endure to enjoy it.
My personal highlights are I am not a lyricist, Circus Ciscus Free$tyle & Ca$ino. Against popular ratings Good Flirts was also a highlight for me. The song is catchy and fun to listen to. Did it need a Kendrick Lamar ... read more
Ambitious, sonically diverse and experimental.
This project offers a vast verirty of high-enery bangers.
Personally, there are no songs on the album I do not enjoy. Highlights for me are 'The Scythe', 'Up' and 'Lit Effect' and 'Mutt tha Bih'. The song I enjoy least is 'You ain't gotta lie' but even that was fun and enjoyable.
Iceman is...strange. Clearly the rap-focussed album of the trilogy, it includes many highlights as songs themselves. Strangely, though the album is strongly brought down by its concept. It seems the concept of the whole album is still a rebuttal to Kendrick Lamar, with almost every song including subliminals or even direct answers to lines in Kendricks tracks during the feud. Unfortunately the album is 2 years late to the party. Further many aspects to me seem more like Drake shooting his own ... read more
While the album certainly is not good, it has something over both the other albums in the trilogy. It is experimental and actually dares to not sound completely boring. Still many issues plague this record. Firstly starting an album with your mother on the album cover with a song called Hoe Phase is truely strange. Still songs like Hoe Phase and Road Trips are highs on the album. I also really enjoyed Stunna Sandy's feature on Outside Tweaking. Awful songs like Cheetah Print drag it down ... read more
While the Album includes okay to good songs like WNBA, songs like Rusty Intro or Hurrr nor Thurrr are just awful. Most of the songs drown Drakes voice in autotune and do not really deliver vocally. Lines like the whole Circle K sequence on Fortworth are just such a let down. Lacking clear highlights and including many disappointments, I cannot personally justify a higher rating for this album.
