Whoever told Julian he needs autotune to sing will suffer purgatory for seven eternities.
'Chains & Whips', 'P.O.V.', 'So Be It's, 'All Things Considered', 'M.T.B.T.T.F.', 'E.B.I.T.D.A.', 'Inglorious Bastards' - all perfect tracks.
The rest of the songs have hooks that give me varied feelings, from aight to ew. Pharrell stays winning, but he needs to stop that annoying ass falsetto. I don't want to feel like I'm watching a Despicable Me Movie, when I'm engaging with my raps.
I don't see how the 13-minute long interlude 'Approaching Transition' is needed, the song-title, seemingly, aware of it's own lack of necessity, but every other song is perceft in every sense.
I don't really feel like going too deep with this one, tbh - I enjoyed 'Take Me Back to Eden', which practically summarised music for me two years ago, but 'Even in Arcadia' leaves no lasting impression. The honeymoon phase for me has been over for a bit, and I don't really care for an album that does the exact same as the last release. If Sleep Token decide to release something that innovates on their sound, just the slightest bit, I'll be a little more ... read more
With this release, every leading single set crazy expectations - Tracks 2-4 are fantastic and unique, and the three-part title-track is a fantastic deathcore ballad. Aside from 'Soulless Existence', the rest of the "leftovers" are decent to good, with an obvious dropoff in efforts from the band, compared to the singles.
I love the three songs on this EP, and I think Lorna Shore is one of the most interesting bands in the Deathcore genre - in other words, I'm not miserable and stuck up enough to hate it, or call it "corny". The writing is amazing, and the talents on display are nearly unrivaled.
A return to original form, that brings, just about, everything I loved from the debut back.
Damn, this song 10 years old today...
Hope Earl feeling a little bit better now
'Out of The Blue', '11th Dimension' and 'Tourist' are fantastic, memorable tracks - rest of the album is baseline Julian Casablancas, not bad by any means, just decent.
'Vanish Into You' is the only song from this that I'll bring with me, going forward. Most of the songs on this album just don't move me in the slightest.
Also, I really can't be the only one that hears the Jack Black influences in the singing in the beginning of 'Killah' right, or am I tripping?
Might not ever use this album for anything, but a sound carpet while I'm reading, but it sure does the trick. long asl, won't give it a score, just cause, like, I don't know what to make of this. It's nice, but long, it's nice, but a little similar throughout, I don't know.
Most of the songs here are good, but incredibly invariable. 'Open Hearts' and 'Cry For Me' are the obvious peaks, and happen too early for any interest to remain in the fantastic, but predictable, soundscape, The Weeknd has created and maintained.
We Stood Like Kings peaked with 'USA 1982'. By giving the guitar more breathing room, and front-stage presence on the songs than on the previous projects, it gives the music a more smooth feel, creating a soundscape that feels invariable, yet fresh at every turn. 'Heat Haze' culminates in the strongest moment out of any climax of any song I've heard, safe for very few examples that might be comparable. 'Night Owl' is also a fantastic piece, that jumpscared me ... read more
I think some of the greatest, calmest, all-the-while chaotic, music can be found on the 6-song-stint from 'Capital' to 'Immense Wealth'. with the beatifully crafted 'Caravans', that doesn't excite on it's own, following, leading up to 'Samoyedes', arguably one of the best songs I've ever heard. The sheer weight behind every sound from the piano, along with the rumbling of the guitar, makes for one of the brightest highlights in rock, and, ... read more
FINALLY!!! WE STOOD LIKE KINGS HAS ARRIVED ON AOTY!!!!
Berlin was not my introduction to the band, and I firmly believe they went on to make better music in their later soundtrack albums. 'Akt 1' and 'Akt 4' are the highlights, that also reveal the talents that would be put to a more effecient and thorough use in the following releases.
I'll be as nice as I can, because I really love a lot of spiritbox songs, and I was excited as hell when they released 'Soft Spine' - this album is completely fine. I have no strong opinions, and spiritbox has become a band that can exist in my world, without drawing too much attention. I want them to challenge themselves, and release a purely heavy and monochromatic album, one where Courtney's vocals don't get a cheap pass, pretty ad they may be.
'DIS 1 GOT IT' and Kendrick's verse on 'GOOD CREDIT' were solid. That's about it, for the amount of delays and hype this album got, I really expected something slightly polished - instead we just got a bunch of flexing and some mediocre beats, which felt very outdated and subpar.
Will inevitably, probably, presumably, guaranteed, give this a 10 at some point, possibly after 'Birthing' is out, but right now, the The Cult vibes I get from the final riffs give me mixed feelings. But god DAMN, am I excited for the album.
