~~~ The JPEGMAFIA Experience #3 ~~~
I'm so scared ahhhhh scary album JPEGMAFIA goat
After a long break from Peggy, I'm finally back, and now I'll finally listen to his discography that most people know. Black Ben Carson is very scary. It's good industrial hip-hop, and he's angrier than ever. Since his days under the moniker of "Devon Hendryx", he always have been overtly political, and always have hated everything. I mean he dissed Pantera, The Rolling Stones, and essentially everything here.
This took the ideas of Communist Slow Jams and Darkskin Manson and turned it up to 11. This album is cold, harsh, aggressive, dark, glitchy, and everything else in-between. Peggy was truly in his Drake Era here. JPEGMAFIA ALL CAPS NO SPACES and CUCK have such aggressive beats I feel like I'm being violated at all sides when I listen to these. Digital Blackface has an extremely niche R&B sample, which Peggy chopped, screwed, and punted all over. Most of the songs here are basically that. It's all aggressive, hateful, oh goodness me.
Here are the highlights in the album for me. Firstly, JPEGMAFIA ALL CAPS NO SPACES might be one of my favorite tracks here. It's so aggressive and in your face, and it's really unlike anything he has made before this. He really leaned into the experimental and industrial sound that he's been doing. The next highlight, and the most traumatizing one here, is the track I Just Killed A Cop Now I'm Horny. The first minute and a half is unforgettable. I mean, I gotta put it next to Dance with the Devil in terms of the most traumatizing audios I've heard in music. Boi reminded me of his JOECHILLWORLD and ❤️ era. The vaporwave-like and ambient beat it had was pretty nice. The 27 Club is a classic, being in one of his old album back in his days as Devon Hendryx.
Amongst the good though, I have a few things to criticize this album for. Although the Spotify release already cut off alot of songs from the original tracklist, it still feels a little bloated. Some songs just go on for too long, and it gets a little repetitive when he is just saying fuck you over different industrial beats. Also I can't tell if there were features at all because they did not stand out at all. I checked, and apparently there were a few. Although it introduced many new ideas, it wasn't as concise as Communist Slow Jams was. This album really just suffered from bloatedness.
Overall though, it was a very creative project from Peggy. In terms of experimentation, he leaned much more into that here in this album. To some people, this is Peggy's first dance in the limelight. For me, it's the culmination of Peggy's works so far. Good album.
