Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap
78

Even better than the last one.

Chance the Rapper is a one of a kind rapper, and he really displayed his own style of music here. It's definitely a significant improvement from 10 Day; it has much better production and much more creativity. Chance may not be the best singer nor rapper, but damn his energy here is infectious and you can't help but enjoy this album.

This album just sounds very happy. Good Ass Intro is just so happy man. It really makes me feel like I'm good. The ... read more

maximilian - RUNNER

Being the last of the BWF member solo album I’ve listened to, I think this is a very pleasant listening experience. They all have a sound that they all naturally gravitate towards, but each of them has their own style. maximilian, the guitarist of the group, has the most guitar in his solo album (yeah no shit). It’s folky R&B, and I like that about it. In the context of BWF, he's probably the farthest away from that sound.

His music is very relaxing to listen to, and I ... read more

“Too young to hold on
And too old to just break free and run”

A year and a half ago, I had a project that I was doing overnight at a friend’s house. We were stuck there for 3 days straight, and I vividly remember around nighttime, my friend played a song that I thought was really good. I didn’t know who the artist was, or what the album was either, but I remember the song being really good, I was listening to a musical masterpiece. Fast-forward to when I started writing ... read more

This sounds AI generated 😭😭

Che - Sayso Says
88

Underground Atlanta Rage Rapper and Producer Che sure won the underground’s heart. If I have to think what the underground sounds like, I think of Che. He reflects the better and more unique sounds of the underground, and he definitely honed his craft on this one. Sayso Says is his debut studio album, and he did something great here. From his prior album, closed captions — you get the idea of what Che wants to sound like, and he’s not exactly a Carti clone or anything. He ... read more

Laufey - A Matter of Time
77

short review.

This album was the most different sounding album she has made. It's in the same vein of usual Laufey of course, but this sounds more like Disney music (and Christmas even) compared to her albums before that really leans into the jazz sound. This is fantasy music. I like how unique it is, but unfortunately it would probably be my least favorite of her works. I liked it though. Good album.

Fav track: Sabotage
Least fav: Castle in Hollywood

Laufey - Bewitched

short review.

Compared to the album prior, this felt less good by a small margin, but it's still a great listen nonetheless. If the deluxe songs were part of the original cut, this album would go much higher for me. From the Start is great. Great album.

Fav track: From the Start
Least fav: Misty

Laufey - Everything I Know About Love
87

Laufey brought a Jazz and Bossa Nova Renaissance to the 2020s, and the world would be worse without it. She has a voice that soothes a million ears, and she has a talent for creating this traditional pop type of sound. The 50s sound is timeless, and ts is still amazing and even now. Her love for that era of sound is evident — like the one song where she talks about Chet Baker. That's ball knowledge.

Compared to the first EP, there's a definite step up in quality and budget. ... read more

John Michel - Sinful Temptations

He’s rapping like his life is on the line.

Around 1 year ago, I saw this guy’s latest album flying around the music landscape. The album with big black circle in the middle. I saw a bunch of memes comparing this to Birthing by The Swans, and I never really thought about it that much. All I knew was it was a hiphop album, it was overlooked by the general public, and people who have listened to it really liked it. I’ve also noticed that most reviews on this mixtape compares it ... read more

Mac Miller - Faces

He did it all without a Drake feature.

This review was a long time coming. 10 months ago, my ears have been graced by the music of Mac Miller. Over the course of my listening journey, I have heard all the difference sounds that he has done throughout the years, and how it evolves through every release. Around his 2010 was the start of his rise as an artist. KIDS is byfar the best project he has released during this era. Around this time, his music sounded like what people call “frat ... read more

Peter Sotos - Buyer's Market

Why was this shit even made?

Buyer’s Market is a collection of interviews. It has the cries and testimonials of children, and this shit confuses me. Is this some kind of artistic expression? Is this trying to put forth an issue that needs attention? Or is this shit just shock vale?

I don’t know much about Peter Sotos or Whitehouse, but I do know that this guy had child porn. That makes me wonder what even was the point of this album. Is this anti-pedophilia? Why was this even an ... read more

The Stooges - Raw Power
69

Being the 3rd album in The Stooge’s discography, and the last album of theirs that people consider good — I expected it to be at the same level of quality of Funhouse, or even better for that matter. In my honest and humble opinion though, I think this album is just okay. I found the songwriting here pretty simple and hey, it attempts to be in your face, but I just can’t find it in myself to really enjoy this album as much as their last 2 albums. It was probably the first ... read more

Joshua Raw - SASQUATCH
88

This was actually pretty good. Why isn't this an album?

Being another solo project from one of the members of Biking With Francis, SASQUATCH shows how talented these guys are at what they do. In the case of SASQUATCH, I have to say this is better than most of their solo works so far. While I like RAMBO alot, it tends to wear it's influences alot. This was actually much more original and felt more diverse in terms of sound compared to the other solo works of the members. Joshua Raw is ... read more

Joshua Raw - DOGFOOD demos

Joshua Raw is part of Biking With Francis, and his solo work here (not really solo) was pretty good. I love how each track here are so different from eachother, and it works great for the first and last tracks, but I don't think JNCO JEANS is that good compared to everything else here. Pretty nice though. Good EP.

Fav track: WHAT IF?
Least fav: JNCO JEANS

maximilian - JUDO!
72

Being part of Biking With Francis, I had high expectations going into this. Well I think this was pretty serviceable. It sounded like it could be more but the direction just kinda veers off here. Interesting ideas though. Good EP.

Fav track: YOU N I
Least fav: JET FLUX

Garrett Sparrow - RAMBO
86

If Frank and Tyler had a white kid it'd be Garrett Sparrow.

He wears his influences on his sleeves, and boy I do love it. From his vocal inflections and layering, to the instrumentation and production — you can tell where he got his influences. He's not really trying to reinvent anything on this album, but I gotta say he nailed the sound perfectly here. Garrett Sparrow is heavily underrated, and he needs much more publicity than he has now. Being part of the greatest boyband of ... read more

The Stooges - Fun House
83

Their sophomore album Funhouse has been widely acclaimed both as one of the biggest influences to punk, and an all amazing hard rock album. They were ahead of their time by a mile, and the work they did here is an improvement from their debut album. The production here was pretty good for its time, and the energy of Iggy Pop is still here — better than ever.

This album is much more energetic, and I feel a better sense of direction here. It's much more consistent compared to their ... read more

The Stooges - The Stooges

When the conversation regarding the progenitors of punk is discussed, one of the bands that is widely considered one of the biggest influences to punk is The Stooges. Alongside bands like MC5 and The New York Dolls — The Stooges lived by the punk attitude and sound before punk even came to be. From their debut album alone, you can already hear the sounds that eventually evolved into punk.

Iggy Pop has a performance that sounds much more raw and fun compared to their contemporaries, and ... read more

my bloody valentine - m b v

I love Shoegaze.

Since loveless, it has been 2 decades of no new music from mbv. After releasing one of the best albums of all time (and bankrupting their record label) back in 1991, it was definitely a sweet surprise for some music enthusiasts when they released this album. my bloody valentine is one of the most influential bands in the shoegaze genre — basically giving birth to the entire sound as a whole. Shoegaze is just a great genre. There isn't really anything like this sound ... read more

Patti Smith Group - Radio Ethiopia
82

Patti Smith’s sophomore album Radio Ethiopia seems to be somewhat of a middle child amongst her more popular records. In streaming alone, it doesn't touch the heights of a Horses or an Alice. With that said, this album should get much more praise since it is a huge influence to punk as well. Together with Horses — these two albums of her are the progenitors of punk. Horses delved more into the attitude and lyricism, and this kinda reflects the sound a bit more.

Sure, the sound ... read more
