Patti Smith - Horses Review
“The Grandmother of Punk” —

I saw a reddit comment call her that, and it perfectly describes who she was in the context of Punk. It wasn't about how she composed her music, but how she shows that punk attitude in her lyrics and in her performance. It's raw and she sounds like she's putting her everything in singing those lyrics. Aside from the punk influences, she is a poet through and through. The imagery she invokes in her lyrics ... read more

GIVĒON - When It's All Said And Done... Take Time
66

I think the extra songs are just okay. It didn't really add anything much to the overall experience of this album. I don't know if it's throwaways or he just threw this in together with the original album, but I have to say this is a bit underwhelming. The vocal performance in the extra songs are a bit lacking in emotion, and the production could be better. That said, I like the production in All To Me. I don't think the chorus of each song are that good. The feature was ... read more

GIVĒON - TAKE TIME
76

Baritone Daniel Caesar.

GIVĒON is a talent, and his debut EP which was released at the start of the pandemic basically introduced him as the next R&B star. This EP has his most popular song, Heartbreak Anniversary, and it propelled him way into stardom. What can I really say about this EP? He has a great voice, which bodes really well with the instrumentals — but compared to other records that do already exist, it doesn't really do anything to stand out. I have to give him ... read more

Do I need to explain what this album is?

This album defined what the 90s sounded like. This era of music was truly something else. Grunge in the 90s is basically what Punk was like in the 70s. It was a musical renaissance. You cannot deny the impact this album had on music as a whole. I mean, the naked baby in the pool is one of the most iconic things in music culture.

In September of 1991, Underground Seattle Grunge Band Nirvana released an album that carved the face of what grunge was. The ... read more

MAVI - Laughing so Hard, it Hurts
77

Who hurt you MAVI…

MAVI is a man of poetry and lyricism. He wears his influences throughout his work. Maybe a little too much, but with that, he is still able to deliver amazing pieces of work to the world. Let the Sun Talk is a display of that. Sure, he may be an alternate of Earl, but you can’t deny that his debut album is a piece of art. Now, does his sophomore album live up to what he did in his debut album?

Kinda.

I have to get this out of the way. This album has great ... read more

Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic
92

The best 70s Funk and Soul album of the 21st century.

Although that statement is contradictory, this album truly revives that era of music in a way that’s unique to what Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are doing here. This has got to be one of the happiest albums I’ve heard in awhile. It radiates a type of joy that can’t really be found in most albums. It gives that sound that makes you believe that life really is sunshine and rainbows. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak really do ... read more

Nirvana - Bleach

Nirvana’s debut was pretty good.

Before anything, a little background on how I got to listening to this album. The entrance exam for the college I want to get into is a few months from now, and as I get into reviewing, I wanted to listen to some music. I actually have alot of albums saved on my Spotify serving as somewhat of a backlog of what I will review next, and today, I felt compelled to listen to this one. That probably made me like this album much more than I should since I kept ... read more

Big L - Harlem's Finest: Return Of The King
81

Big L was one of the most talented rapper and lyricist that lived. It was hard to compare to him in terms of bars and performance, and for that, it was truly unfortunate he had to go. Going into this, I was actually a bit worried because I didn't know if it would live up to the works he made when he was still alive. And honestly, this was pretty good for a posthumous album.

Firstly, Big L was amazing here. Even beyond the grave, this man has all the characteristics of a legend. Them using ... read more

The Strokes - Comedown Machine

~~~ Stroking #5 ~~~
Haven't listened to The Strokes in awhile. I actually tried listening to this album many times, but I really used to believe that this album was kinda eh. But every subsequent listen, this album just gets better. This album, despite it being a throwaway album, is better than what most people thought of it when it first released. Is it ahead of its time? Who knows, but some elements here does sound like what newer indie rock sounds like.
Anywho, Comedown Machine. ... read more
Kanye West - BULLY
69
Edit (03/31/26): I like ALL THE LOVE more now since it sounds better than WHITE LINES. Also PUNCH DRUNK sounds like missed potential, it could've been more.
Better than I expected. Doesn't say much though.
It's a bit sad what acceptable sounds like to Ye nowadays. I mean, this album is not bad. I'd place it below Donda, and above Jesus is King, but damn he used to make the best shit. It's a bit funny that the singles he released are the worst songs in the album, with ... read more
Alice Cooper - Love It to Death
87
I love this album to death.
A few months ago, I wanted to start listening to punk music. Before I did that though, I thought about listening to the albums that influenced its existence, which is in the genre that we call “Proto-punk”. Now, the works in this genre usually fall under other genres since Proto-punk is less of something with similar sounds, rather a movement which influenced the punk wave. After checking around, I found this album.
I don't know much about Alice ... read more
Joji - Piss In The Wind
55
After a 4 year long hiatus from music, Joji comes back with a new album called "Piss in the Wind".  Was it worth the wait?
Short answer? No.
Long answer? It shows Joji trying to experiment with his sound, so in the end we did get new sounds from the guy. The real problem however, is even if Joji sounds like he wants to introduce new ideas, it feels like a BALLADS 1 era type of album, where it sounds like a bunch of demos cobbled together and given the label of an album. ... read more
Joji - SMITHEREENS
71
QUICK REVIEW.
Joji's SMITHEREENS is pretty okay. It has one amazing track, a few great ones, and even though it's pretty short, it has some mid ones. Maybe I'll make a full review soon but overall, okay album.
Fav track: Glimpse of Us
Least fav: BLAH BLAH BLAH DEMO
Debris' - Static Disposal
78
Crazy ass album.
An almost unknown band in the 70s, Debris' really did do something here. I wouldn't listen to ts for leisure, but the creativity can't be ignored. From what I know, Static Disposal isn't really the album name, but it's the name of the record label that released this album, and my god this album really is something. You can hear The Stooges here, and they took that and made it an experimental space rock piece of art.
The vocal performances here are ... read more
Niontay - Soulja Hate Repellant
77
Personally, I think enjoying Niontay is somewhat of an acquired taste. It took me awhile to actually start enjoying his music. Demon Muppy set out the groundworks for his future music, but it didn't really prepare me for the shit he was actually about to put out. I kinda enjoyed his last album, but I wasn't really getting Niontay yet back then. Pair that with the fact it had 19 tracks — it was a bit hard for me to get through.
Fast-forward to now, he dropped Soulja Hate ... read more
A$AP Rocky - PUNK ROCKY
86
I love this rocky please feed me more🤤🤤🤤
With that said, I didn't really expect his single to sound like this. Wasn't really punk and some people calling this experimental is crazy. Yeah sure he's trying new sounds, but indie rock with alot of reverb not experimental... It's really good though. I want more of this.
MAVI - END OF THE EARTH
69
This EP was alright. MAVI's introspective and deep bars are still here. He's always been a great lyricist and poet — somewhat of an Earl Sweatshirt. But even with its short runtime, 2/5 of this EP is kinda mediocre.
Maybe in a different context, METHODS would be a better song, but I just don't fw the production here. I know MAVI dabbles on trap like production after this project, but it just doesn't work for me here. I don't think LIFE WE LIVE is as bad as people ... read more
Big L - The Big Picture
90
"Ask Beavis, I get nothing Butthead"
Big L is one of the best rappers of all time. He drops bars like none have done before, and it's really tragic that he passed away before we could see his full potential. I send all my prayers to his family, and I truly hope that people get to know how goated he actually was.
The Big Picture is a great posthumous album. Just like his debut album, this album shows that he is an amazing lyricist. He is a street poet, and he has to be the best ... read more
Biking With Francis - SUNROOF
92
Ok yes this is almost as good as HONEYDEW.
I love this EP alot. Compared to BRUNETTE, there are songs here that actually made me feel the way I did back when I listened to HONEYDEW.
Firstly, FLANG gotta be one of their best songs. Holy shitt. "BE MY SUMMER FLANGGG" shit be so heavenly. POLLEN intro made me think of one of those old 80s synth ballad songs. This shit peak. And COWGIRL is amazing. It makes me feel nice and fuzzy inside. With that said, I think the worst song of theirs ... read more
