Muse Re-review: Pt. 3

It's great to get back to reviewing and start with such a great release immediately. It has shrunk on me a bit (88=>85), but nevertheless, it's really good. I feel like I've been too harsh while rating the songs, but whatever.

The best song on this album and possibly one of the best Muse have ever written is Stockholm Syndrome. It's the only 10 on the album for me, just a musical masterpiece in every way. Hysteria is also a song I want to mention, the iconic bassline with some weird effects on Matt's vocals combined into an amazing banger.

It's crazy how BradTaste called the second half of the album "nondescript boring 00s rock" when there are songs like Blackout, Butterflies and Hurricanes, and Endlessly on it. Blackout is shockingly experimental, and for some reason, its beauty really shook me to the core at some point. Same with Butteflies and Hurricanes.

The only song I don't necessarily like on this album is the closer, Ruled by Secrecy, which has a weird message and is just an unnecessary slowdown in general.

Fury is also a great song that didn't make the cut for some reason. It's a great one, but it loses to both Spiral Static and Futurism in comparison.

Overall, it's a great album, but I don't understand how this record is a must hear, and Showbiz isn't.
