One of if not the best experimental hiphop album ever released. There is this indescribable feeling i get when I hear production like this. Best way I COULD describe it is excitement, but it doesn’t quite sum up what it’s like to experience a series of tracks like these for the first, second or 50th time. It sounds so repulsive, yet so attractive to me. Disgusting album cover. I would never add this go my vinyl collection just because of that. This hiphop group is so special. There ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP

Really enjoyable first listen, but the more i tried replaying some tracks the less special or different from one another they felt. The production is great, but vocally he is missing what he had even on his last project. I do like how the album is basically divided into 2 sections, the first half being utterly discombobulating and the second half featuring more angelic production that closely resemble prior tracks of his like Don’t Put Anything On The Bible.

Overall, it is a vibe to ... read more

Album Re-Listen: JAY-Z - The Black Album
Old Rating: Decent 9
New Rating: 10/10
Favourites: Encore, Public Service Announcement (Interlude), 99 Problems

Such great rapping through the entire runtime of the album. Jay’s energy is so exciting and goes hand to hand with the very cheery and fun production. Speaking of which, the production is INCREDIBLE. At the time this album was meant to be his last and if that was the case this probably would’ve been the best last album ever. With ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
71

Rocky takes pretty weird direction with this album, which makes sense considering the time gap between this and his last project. I feel like a lot of songs here have AMAZING ideas but just could’ve been executed much better. The features weren’t that notable, but for the most part they felt pretty fitting. Even Doechii’s feature had a pretty cool idea behind it, but the part where she keeps making smooching noises really brings down my enjoyment for the song ... read more

Death Grips - Exmilitary
96

This mixtape begins with a track that I consider to be one of the most incredible intros to any album or mixtape I’ve listened to. Having also listened to The Money Store I already knew that Death Grips was a music group capable of putting together an amazing sequence of songs in a(n) album/mixtape, so when I went into the album expecting an opener as great as Get Got (from The Money Store), my expectations were blown away. Unfortunately, the opening track (Beware) is in fact the best ... read more

Kanye West - BULLY

Pretty boring album, there were some pretty good songs here and there but overall the mixing was very flawed. Ye’s vocals sound very choppy and it is clear that he has nothing to offer anymore in music. Though this is a pretty mediocre attempt at an album, Ye does leave behind a legendary discography. There’s a lot to be considered about Ye’s mental health, which in my opinion is what led to his downfall artistically.

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
94

This is the perfect last album. In this album J. Cole revisits the Fayetteville at ages 29 on the first disc and39 on the second disc, which is where he grew up. In the first disc, he is at a point of life where he made it. He already understands how much he owes to his hometown and when he visits it in this disc, the people praise him for voicing all the experiences he went through when growing up as a member in Fayetteville’s community. Some of these people are some of his childhood ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - Cherry Bomb

The production on this album really sets the foundations for the sound that he will keep going for in his future albums, except in this occasion it does feel a tad bit more experimental sounding than Flower Boy. I appreciate that this album really marks an era of change for Tyler since he shows a good amount of self awareness but also evolution in his style. Though the lyrics may sometimes be too silly and/or weird the production honestly is too sick. Some aspects of the production on songs ... read more

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out

The first half of this album is straight up phenomenal. 5 10/10 tracks back to back and I genuinely believe that this is one of the best track runs in hip hop history. Every single verse in this album is at LEAST solid. Tyler delivers what’s probably the best feature I’ve heard from him as I’m writing this. All the features on this album fit pretty well and Kendrick’s verse on Chain’s & Whips is GENIUS. I feel the second half of the album definitely isn’t ... read more

JAY-Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne
88

The direction this album was headed in really reminds me of Recovery by Eminem, except Kanye and Jay executed it in a much greater and luxurious style than Eminem did. This entire album feels like it is all supposed to be hits and both of these rappers do great jobs at this. At the time Kanye and Jay were some of the biggest rappers of all time so this album was truly something different back then. Overall I think Jay Z does better than Kanye but I really love Kanye’s delivery on songs ... read more

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING

Big downgrade from what could’ve been. Literally everyone agrees that Yandhi would’ve been better, and this is coming from me, a christian. In fact, the unreleased version of Yandhi is already so much better than this album. It isn’t terrible, but almost all of the track are just mediocre. I can name only a couple of track that I actually replay and besides that, even if Kanye puts out somewhat interesting lyrics, the album just lacks real effort. Some vocals were even ... read more

Kanye West - Donda 2

This is the worst album in Ye’s discography. Nobody needed this. This album is even less unfinished than Vultures 2 and it genuinely feels MISERABLE to listen to. No reason for this to ever have existed. Originally it was only on STEM player for the price of 200$, but everyone knows that this just isn’t worth it. What’s insane is that the only reason this “Demo Album” is on streaming services, even if a portion of its tracks have been removed (including the best ... read more

Kanye West - Yeezus

One of the best experimental albums ever. How does one go from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne to YEEZUS. Once again he completely changes his sound and it honestly makes sense why he started having a god complex and pretty much expressed that feeling in his music. I think my biggest problem with this album is that you can’t really play it outside your house besides the song Black Skinhead, but this isn't necessarily a flaw to be quite frank, but more of a nit ... read more

Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late

A lot of people find the plain production to be this project’s biggest flaw, but it is honestly its overall vibe is really comforting. Hearing Drake show his love to the city he grew up in really makes me appreciate this mixtape a lot, since his words feel sincere and you can see he truly put a lot of passion into this records. There are some vocal performances that do sound a bit off and maybe some of the writing on a couple of songs (e.g. Now & Forever). On the other hand, there is ... read more

I believe this is one of the best projects by any artist I have ever listened to.
Mindblowing production, incredible features from people like Pusha T and Rick Ross. I feel like I have so much to say, but I do not know how exactly I’d put it into words. This album feels like an unforgettable journey top to bottom. There isn’t much I could say that’d do this album any justice. It is definitely up there with my favourite projects ever. Kanye West - The College Dropout

This is my favourite album. I could go on hours talking about every single thing I love this album for, but I don’t wanna drag this review. It is genuinely incredible how determined Kanye was to put out this project, even when it seemed like the universe was doing everything to stop him. The production is incredible, the lyrical moments are very memorable, especially one liners like “couldn’t afford a car so she named her daughter Alexis” and even though a lot of people ... read more

Calling an album an absolute mess is usually a mad insult but this album does it in the best way possible. In a single track list, Kanye blends in so many different sounds. You can’t really hear Yeezus on songs like Freestyle 4 and Feedback and the energy he had from his last album is also displayed a lot here alongside some absurd lyrics. The album begins with a gospel track and is followed by “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1”. Such name would make a person think it is another ... read more

Kanye West - Donda

Donda contains a decent number of great songs and one of Kanye’s best songs, Life of The Party, is in here, too. There is SOME replay value in here, but this does not forgive how absolutely bloated this project is. Theres SO SO many songs that appear in the track list that are 100% unnecessary. Greatest example is every single “Pt. 2”. Each one of these are copy pastes of their predecessors with new verses or features, but they serve nothing to the final cut. Additionally some ... read more

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
97

One of the first albums I ever listened to and definitely one of the best. Like its predecessor, a big chunk of the weiting has comedic intent, though this time Eminem appears much more mature and the topic of his sudden is constantly being brought up all throughout this project. Through said topic, Marshall’s incredible storytelling is displayed in songs like The Way I Am, Criminal and Stan. The rhyme schemes he constructs are both very clever and at times even catchy and Dr. Dre ... read more
