This album starts off so bombastically, it feels like it’d be catnip to the theatre school kids out there. But, for me at least, it sags a lot in the middle and becomes rather flat, which isn’t something I’ve ever accused her of before.
It’ll never challenge the first three albums but it was still enjoyable to listen to and has some real standouts, namely: Everybody Scream, One Of The Greats, Sympathy Magic, You Can Have It All, And Love
This album manages to be sharp and spiky, while also warm and fuzzy and I don't know why it’s taken two years to get round to listening in full. On the whole it works as well. There are a few tracks which blend into one another, the vocals a bit indistinguishable in places, and the lyrics hard to make out, but when she lands on a tune, it really lands. This is peak New Order right here, and is a perfect follow up to Power, Corruption and Lies. While their previous album is seen as the first proper New Order album, when I think of their premier phase, this is the album that springs to mind. Also, any album that has The Perfect Kiss on it is easily a must hear.

None of the songs here are below 7/10, but those 7/10's make up a lot of the tracklist, which might explain why I don't often revisit the album as a whole, and just have my favourites on rotation, namely: Godless, Mohammed, Nietzsche, Sleep, Bohemian Like You, The Gospel
