Goddamn these boys knew how to make some of the best ditties ever. They obviously hadn’t perfected it at this point, at least for an entire record’s length, but they were for sure getting there. Especially with the hits on here like the title track, Help!, or Yesterday which are by far my favorites on the album, a theme I’ve noticed quite a bit going through The Beatles’ discography. Similarly to my thoughts on Revolver, it's insane to me how they can make these short 2-3 minute tracks so memorable. I don’t know if anyone has done short songs as well as The Beatles in the over 50 years since they began. Not everything here is perfect or even that “necessary” but with the length of these songs, it’s hard to point out a specific point where they falter. Help! shows clear signs that they could eventually make a For No One or an And Your Bird Can Sing but just weren’t quite there yet. Though, they were still making some fantastic songs that I think anyone could appreciate.
