Ok then, this is a big one, either you love it or think that it is pretty overrated, you will hear someone pressing this thing for the hundredth time .But for me it was on of the first records I really fell ind love with and made me feel something emotionally. OK computer by Radiohead was a pretty big left turn for them and wouldn’t be their last they would make. It’s a record that generally has a lot of social commentary and is pretty effective and even relevant today. If you can finally sit down and listen to this thing after hearing Thom Yorke’s wailing vocals or thinking gosh we do be living in a society though, I feel that you will get a lot of appreciation for what It was trying to say and convey during that time. Take the opener for example airbag, it explains the time that feeling of being in a car crash and how much more alive you are after it, if not being saved by the built in airbag of the car are protagonist may not have been alive. However for the songs meaning it’s about how relevant independent we are in technology to save us. The second track paranoid android sees a maniac who wants to gain power and rain hellfire and those who oppose him, almost sound crazy, also through the track you can hear him singing to himself almost going completely insane, and right after having very aggressive guitars and transitioning in to various different parts of the track like bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. One of my favorite deep cuts comes right after here with subterranean homesick alien, having a great guitar riff and feeling like you’re in outer space, However also likely focuses on this crazy man we heard from the last track or someone else wishing to be somewhere other than earth and being swooped up by aliens and heading to a whole new planet and different world. However by the end of the track we’re noted that everyone thinks he’s crazy and it won’t come true, almost setting him as an outcast form the rest. Then you have exit music for a film which scores the movie Romeo and Juliet, with this in mind you can definitely here that with some of the lyrics to relate to the movie, of course it would, But can also be the themes of the last track we heard out as well ,with wanting to escape, heading somewhere else and being away by the system a.k.a. society. Then you have let down which I love in the critical track as well and keeps the pace of the album going pretty well leading into Karma police. Karma police continues the theme of wanting to gain control and power however it never seems like enough and by the end as well, are protagonist seems to have almost lost himself for a moment ind all the chaos around him. Then you have filter happier, for weird interlude like track like this shouldn’t work but yet it does and fits perfectly within the context of the album, it’s more computer telling a lot of different things and telling about a person what they do, how they act and what they’re up to. Fun fact this was actually going to be the opener for OK computer, but changed later on halfway through, Man I would’ve loved peoples reaction back then in 1993 if that choice was made. Then at the end of the track before it ends it says the words a pig in a cage on antibiotics, directly after it being said we hear cage noises and incomes to track electioneering sounding very rebellious and chaotic just like some of the segments on paranoid android. Moving on we have climbing up the walls witch sounds like I’m in a abandon forest, no surprises being very good as well and having a almost childlike feeling to it, while having some pretty grim lyrics. Lucky which was the first track to be recorded, gave the inspiration for the rest of the albums sound, Great and just overall fantastic. And then the final track the tourist talking about not moving to quick in life, taking the time, really taking in what you’re experiencing, what you’re doing and overall slow down man. To conclude OK computer, it was one of my first album that I really considered a 10 out of 10 . it has the themes of wanting to gain control ,escaping from this world and trying to at least appreciate life for what it is. Very solid work from Radiohead, a tremendous growth for them as a band and having many more records and fantastic works to come.
