Something I love about Lorde is that she has never made the same album twice. There isn’t a specific sound we can fully expect from her, but she has always had a knack for distilling specific moments and feelings into song. “Virgin” has the bildungsroman feel of “Pure Heroine,” the visceral emotion, sexuality and enveloping sound of “Melodrama,” and the individualism of “Solar Power,” yet each is uniquely Lorde.
