BOYNEXTDOOR - No Genre

I’ve been listening to this album for the last few months in the middle of stretches of overwork. That particular mix of fatigue and nostalgia where the body keeps going even as the mind drifts backward, looking for earlier versions of itself. BOYNEXTDOOR’s No Genre tends to show up for me at moments like this. I turn it up when I need a lift. It keeps me moving while things feel heavy. Lately, the work I’ve been assigned has felt isolating—lots of responsibility, the ... read more

ALPHA DRIVE ONE - EUPHORIA

I started editing this review the week it came out, when the adrenaline was still loud and everything felt sharper simply because it had finally arrived. Survival show debuts do that to me. They come preloaded with anticipation, muscle memory, and a kind of borrowed hope. I rated it higher then. But time does its quiet work. You relisten. You take a walk. Eventually, you reach a place where the noise settles enough to hear what’s actually there.

KINO - If this is love, I want a refund

It took me a while to arrive here. I already knew Kino, of course. Pentagon will always remain on the radar of my listening life. “Shine” is lodged permanently somewhere within me, joyful and indelible. (And yes, I do own a copy of their Positive EP purely because I really loved that track.) Ultimately, though, I never followed the group closely or bothered to track every release. Kino, however, was hard to miss. Someone I follow on Twitter is a devoted Pentagon fan, particularly ... read more

XG - THE CORE - 核

I’ve had the apartment to myself all weekend. No half-volume compromises this time. Just full blast, windows cracked open to cold air that doesn’t usually show up where I live. I put my IEMs in for my walk, clipped my digital audio player to my pocket, and decided—somewhere between tracks—that lunch would be Hainanese chicken rice. That detail matters. Hunger matters. Anticipation does things to the body.

I’ve been waiting for The Core the way you wait for food ... read more

TWS - Sparkling Blue
92

I didn’t come to Sparkling Blue void of context. I came carrying other debuts still humming in my ears—SEVENTEEN in the background of my daily life, TXT unfolding years earlier under the long shadow of BTS. And just months prior, the beginnings of the fifth generation with ZEROBASEONE and BOYNEXTDOOR. As such, my excitement for TWS at the time came braided with a particular vigilance. You listen not just for what is there, but for what might be missing, what’s borrowed, ... read more
