This is a cute release, and a cute theme song for mixed-ish, and that's about it. As far as Mariah's discography goes, this is far from her best work, but it's cute nonetheless and it's great to see Mariah contributing to a narrative that resonates with her through writing the theme song to a TV series like this. Decent vocals, decent production, decent writing, nothing brilliant, nothing horrible.
‘No Tomorrow’ is a track that showcases a little bit of a slightly more interesting, faster paced vibes, and no doubt features some of my favourite vocal layerings from Brandy, with the entire track featuring an entrancing melody that feels both haunting, yet romantic. The feature of Ty Dolla $ign unfortunately feels gimmicky and doesn't feel like it does much for the song in comparison to the original mix featured on the parent album. That being said, this is still one of the most ... read more
This is the single we have been waiting on from Brandy. This is her redemption moment. ‘Borderline’, is probably the most hyped track by Brandy prior to the album’s release, and it definitely lives up to it. Lyrically, it feels like a representation of the crossroads between needing love, and finding the maturity to need to find stability within oneself. Brandy’s vocals here encourages a peaceful acceptance of a difficult situation, with some of the most beautiful belted ... read more
‘Baby Mama’, the first official single from this album, has some of the best lyrical content in 2020, with so much genuine positivity exuding from the track, and no doubt the best choice of a first single from the album. The feature of Chance the Rapper, is definitely one of the best decisions Brandy has made in terms of collaborations, and only adds to the song’s power. That being said, in the scope of Brandy's music and even just looking at the 'B7' album itself, musically ... read more
Hands down one of the worst songs on the 'Chromatica' album, which I had already felt was bad overall. The entire track is tacky, her vocals on here sound like they were produced for a 15-second Tik-Tok/Vine vibes, the overall production is quite monotonous and lacks any creative hills and valleys we've come to expect from Lady Gaga. There is nothing decent about this track except that it gave way for Lady Gaga to produce an aesthetically pleasing video, but that has nothing to do with the song.
I did not expect a collaboration of Lady Gaga with a K-pop group but I'm glad we are here. This is one of the only two decent tracks on 'Chromatica' so I am thankful for this collaboration. While I am not usually a K-pop fan, this tracks works so well to merge the two sounds from opposing pop landscapes, and it's simply enjoyable.
This track isn't bad, it's just generic to a tee. There is no other track in the world that can be defined as generic pop as much as this one does. This feels like a project where David Guetta is producing the next Eurovision song. This is simply lacking the creativity and uniqueness that we've come to love from Gaga. It really is, just a bad song with not redeeming qualities other than it being a collaboration between two strong pop icons.
I have been a fan of Gaga's work throughout her entire career, whether it was 'The Fame Monster', 'Artpop', to 'Joanne'. Something about 'Stupid Love', alongside the rest of the 'Chromatica' joints, feels dated, hollow, and lifeless, and not even justifiable as an artistic choice. This is the start of a downfall in the quality of music from Lady Gaga, and given the power she once possessed in making pop records, I hope this isn't indicative of her having fully lost it.
Compared to the rest of the tracks released prior to the album, this track is quite underwhelming, in fact, shows that maybe there were only two good singles on the album. Thankfully that isn't true. But as a representation of the album, I Love It is easily one of the weaker tracks on there, not the best promo single selection.
This is what a comeback looks like. So glad to hear dance/disco numbers from Kylie again after the country moment that we will never speak of again. This is where Kylie thrives, and with this, she begins saving the gays from a horrible 2020. So here we are, with a bop to last the ages.
Probably her least impressive release since the start of her E•MO•TION era, which had showcased Carly as a consistently solid dance pop artist. Carly usually has fun releases, but with far more depth production wise and emotionally. This feels comparatively flat to what she's been known to put out. Still, a fun track nonetheless.
This isn't the strongest choice for a single on 'Dedicated Side B', in fact, it wouldn't be in my first five choices. A solid track nonetheless, but as a single, doesn't match up to the level of her other singles in this era.
This is such a cute track, and is very fitting for a pandemic to have something so light-hearted and simply intended as a feel-good track. Realistically, this track doesn't have much depth sonically or emotionally, but does the job. A cute release from Carly and for that we are grateful.
It's a cute Christmas song that stays true to Carly Rae Jepsen's roots as a retro-influenced pop artist, and it's incredibly fresh, but due to all that, it doesn't necessarily fit into the sonic soundscape of other Christmas songs, prevent it from being a classic Christmas track. That being said, this is a real cute listen and I'm all here for Carly giving us a Christmas song.
