Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition

This is being written very shortly after creating this profile, so I really am trying to document all my 10s and 9s so I can get to more recent stuff. Anyhow, this was originally a 9, but after letting it marinate for nearly a year, I can confidently say this is a 10. No misses, no skips. This album portrays the downward spiral of a man many wouldn't think would be here today, as Danny was never shy about his extensive substance abuse. This grim feeling is best seen in what is arguably the ... read more

Injury Reserve - By the Time I Get to Phoenix

This grew on me. On a first listen, I was really taken aback by this album, but due to past experiences with Experimental Hip Hop, I knew I had to give it just a bit of time for it to click. And click it absolutely did. This shit is phenomenal, and its packed with multiple feelings, especially a tinge of melancholy, which makes sense, considering the recent passing of group member Stepa J. Groggs. Outside was the track that grew on me the most, as it quickly became one of my favourites on here, ... read more

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
NR

Nearly unreviewable. Words can barely do this album justice, so I'm probably not going go try and give it a numbered score. This is, hand on the bible, the most confusing shit I've ever listened to. It feels like a fever dream. Like seeing your life flash before your eyes over the course of roughly 2 hours and a half, which tracks, considering the position the band was in when they released it. This was, after all, supposed to be their swan song (pun intended), as basically ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞ [CD Version]

I'm writing on the reissued version because that is the one available on Spotify (and therefore is the one I listened to). The good people over at GY!BE (at the time GYBE!) continue to prove to me that they may be worthy of holding the title of the best discography ever, because having this, Skinny Fists, Slow Riot, and Allelujah on it is nothing short of a miracle.

People like to say that this is apocalypse music. God's honest truth, I wouldn't really judge them for thinking ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!

There are no words to describe how much I fucking love this thing. Many albums aim to be "larger than life", but very few manage to be just as big as life itself. That is what this album is. I feel like no other piece of art has ever encapsulated the sensation of just living in this world as well as this one. From the huge crescendos to the ominous drones, every movement is essential to paint the full picture of being alive. Suffice to say, this album often makes me cry like someone ... read more
