Ethel Cain - Perverts
NR

My review: this project pretty accurately reflects what coming home for the holidays feels like in my brain.

My dad's review: "what the hell is that noise?"

My mom's review: "just go down and sit by the washing machine, it'll sound the same!"

Sierra Ferrell - Trail of Flowers

I feel so lucky to have discovered Sierra Ferrell’s music over the last few months. This album is peak Americana, making me feel nostalgic for a life I never lived. Sierra’s voice is captivating and just oozes emotion, fitting perfectly with some classic folk-band instrumentation that you could easily imagine being played live in some back-country bar decades ago. I’m so glad that a fellow West Virginia girl is spreading her appalachian magic around the world! :)

Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism

By decree of Dua Lipa, it is officially summer!! This album is the perfect beach listen, with groovy basslines and a chill pop vibe that will get your head bobbing without you realizing it. The lyrics reflect a new maturity for Dua; she’s a grown woman who knows what she wants in life, and she’s not going to entertain relationships that don’t align with that. Her voice sounds FANTASTIC on some of these tracks, way stronger than I remember hearing on older albums. Do I think ... read more

Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine

Probably the purest “pop diva” album that’s come out so far this year, with most songs being radio-ready. Eternal Sunshine is the most we’ve heard Ariana open up lyrically so far in her career, giving us more narrative and nuance beyond the sexy-and-fun-or-sexy-and-sad vibes of her previous albums. I’m a big fan of a first track/last track parallel within a record, so I appreciate how the question posed in track one (“how can I tell if I’m in the right ... read more

Taylor Swift - THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY
78

Thanks goodness for The Anthology because I was feeling quite unfulfilled after hearing the A-side album. But the “second half” of TTPD feels like it finally settles into itself, with lyrics and production on the same page energy-wise. Taylor shows some real vulnerability in the lyrics of these tracks, which Aaron’s acoustic production style really matches. These songs will 100% be the ones I’m adding to my playlists and revisiting in the future.
