Clearly a labour of love from Dan (and make no mistake, this is a Dan Smith solo project, not a Bastille album), but outside of a few nice highlights, it doesn't really hold my interest from a musical standpoint.
A solid Dan Smith solo album
Let's not kid ourselves: This is not a Bastille album. Dan Smith took the reigns to indulge in the worst flaws of his songwriting. Every since 'Doom Days', Dan has been too keen on using gimmicks instead of his actual songcrafting skills. 'Doom Days' failed to capture the vibe of a party night gone wrong, whilst 'Give me the future' stumbled over the weakest Sci-Fi cliches.

I'm up to "Blue Sky & The Painter," and I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. I've been a Bastille fan for a long time, and I didn't have high hopes for this record, but I appreciate the acoustic sound and vulnerable songwriting.
