creatively bankrupt.
this is the first album by Kim Petras after leaving her label Republic Records, and dropping Dr. Luke as a producer. good for her for doing so, i'm glad she's able to make the music she wants, on her own terms now, and is out of a deal that was clearly negative for everyone involved. however, when she is able to release and do pretty much whatever she wants, it's a very puzzling decision to me to become what is effectively a worse version of Charli ... read more
#FREESHINE TILL ITS BACKWARDS
lil shine is feeding generations and saving what has otherwise been an abysmal week for music. seriously not a single miss on here, shine's voice is magical, as is the productions. summrs and kankan both contribute incredible verses, and they both really make this album feel like a love letter to pluggnb, a genre that has been slowly dying for the better part of three years now. the perfect album for shine to (likely) end his career on, i couldn't have ... read more
pretty great plugg and especially great production from one47. features are all also great, only issue is that maebi's vocals are a bit one note throughout. also pallas cat on the cover those are Amazing creatures
every song kinda sounds the same but i'd be lying if i said i didn't enjoy it. one of the more interesting grindcore albums out there (at least that ive listened to)
a decent electropop/edm outing. im not really the biggest fan of edm, and this album really isn't for me, but i'm still glad it exists and is out there.
what am i not getting here? almost nothing about this album is good. with the exception of So Be It, every production choice on this album is boring and uninspired at best and jaw-droppingly bad at worst. pusha t's rapping is completely forgettable for the most part, malice's rapping is actively ear-grating, and every featured artist contributes their absolute worst.
The Birds Don't Sing features a heartfelt pusha verse over a generic piano beat that doesn't seem to know ... read more
the first half of anal and the second half of listen up jews are actually pretty good, beats are hard and nine's verses aren't too terrible. fuck ogs is one of the worst songs ever made. everything else is various levels of mid and forgettable
update: yeah this grew on me a lot
i have seen this album described as "pure joy", and while sin ever after definitely elicits a feeling of euphoria, i wouldn't describe it as "joyful" (i believe that description more aptly fits prettifun). instead, this album moreso represents a feeling of contentment or satisfaction.
unlike many of his underground peers, 1oneam has always been particularly skilled at building atmosphere within his albums, being able to paint a picture through his production choices ... read more
some of black kray's most experimental. while many of the vocal effects can be offputting to someone more used to kray's older or traditional cloud rap, this album proves that he can evolve his sound without losing any of the personality of his music. kray experiments with drum and bass and rage, as well as many different vocal styles and effects, which make this album one-of-one and distinctly black kray.
a tale of two halves.
the first half of this album is the typical drumless, jazzy fare typical of earl and many of his associates (navy blue, MIKE, etc). while it is nice, at this point, this sort of music has become a bit stale for me. i was somewhat let down by a lot of these tracks, seeing as neither earl's rapping nor the production are anything particularly special.
however, most of the songs after Static are quite a bit better in quality, with livelier production reminiscent of a ... read more
guess you could say it's a pretti fun album!!!!
i don't know why this is called deluxe when it's 15 new songs that don't sound a lot like the original album. gets a bit repetitive but all the songs are good and it doesn't drag on for too crazy long. production is awesome like usual.
every song individually on this album sounds nice, at the very least good enough to warrant a score higher than 60. my main criticism with vanisher is a problem i have with a lot of albums. there's few memorable moments, and most of the tracks somewhat blend into each other. at no point did i remember any specific or standout moments, and while there were a lot of good ideas, that was it. many of the songs felt like they were building up to a moment that never came, so the only memorable ... read more
i saw someone describe this as what i am music was supposed to be, and i honestly couldn't agree more. the carti influences are very immediately obvious, and on a couple songs he even sounds like carti. however, che brings other influences from various artists and genres, as well as his own ideas and flows, and pushes the rage genre into new places, which is almost all you can ask for in a new rage album, especially in rage, where many albums blend into each other.
cool album, and definitely has some really good songs on it (psychoboost, jrjrjr). however, as a whole, i have no reason to listen to this album when che exists. this album is kind of just a worse version of sayso says with danny brown on it
perfectly fine. this album sounds exactly how you think a drake and partynextdoor collab album would sound, nothing interesting, but nothing too offensive. it had no reason to be over an hour long, but it's not a horrible hour.
this album is like rfk jrs brain worm
Is it possible for Cities Aviv to miss?
Aviv's debut mixtape differs decently heavily from most of his later work, more so reminiscent of Devon Hendryx or early Odd Future, in its lo-fi, lush style. Many, if not all of the beats are very vaporwave-y in nature, and Aviv, despite this being his debut, seems to have his flows down to an art. The laid-back rapping combined with cloudy beats help to create a rather enjoyable, chill vibe. The only real issue is that some of the samples do seem a bit ... read more
fuck viper, however this is peak cloud rap. no other artist sounds quite like this
