Kendrick Lamar - GNX

"...somebody wacced out my murals..."

Kendrick is my favorite artist. He changed my musical taste and my perspective on art. His famed spar with Drake was undeniably an essential moment for rap culture, as was reiterated by countless listeners and critics. There is a bassline of quality that comes with a Kendrick project that few artists have ever equaled, and GNX is no different, with some fantastic songs scattered throughout, and yet, for all my praise, there is a prevailing ... read more

"...no more swimmin' by myself..."

Bando Stone and The New World is messy, as has been reiterated by everyone; it's a chaotic medley of genres, ideas, and performances of varying quality, and unfortunately, an inconsistent ending for a special artist. And yet, I can't shake an undeniable feeling of authenticity and fun. Bando Stone and The New World is a flawed but fitting compilation of honest fun, and that's completely fine with me.

"...angel on a satellite..."

Beautiful, dreamy pop and dance album with incredible highs, whose absolute greatness may be hidden from me because of my unfamiliarity with the various influences and tropes of the genre. Nevertheless, I am charmed, although unwilling to enter this LP into any all-time discussions.

Geordie Greep - The New Sound

"...what's left of the dreamer, who dreams and dreams..."

Compositionally genius, 'The New Sound' is a boundary-pushing, genre-bending piece, and an obvious medley of far-reaching influences. I'm not quite obsessed or inspired enough to have this piece reach masterpiece status, but this unexpected mix of almost everything is absurdly fun to listen to.

"...a passenger on no ordinary journey..."

A gift. Beautiful voice, powerful layering, and subtle, creative, airy production.

Nowaah The Flood - Sudan Samurai Scrolls

"... committed all to memory..."

I was unfamiliar with Nowaah The Flood prior to this LP, and although he is far from a master on the microphone, his voice and flow fit perfectly on atmospheric beats from one of French rap's more important figures in recent memory.
