Each song makes me feel like i'm in a coffee shop, listening to a live set - the way in which each song winds down anticipating a pause for applause.
Most songs follow a similar motif, there are clean, dreamy vocals paired with some interesting and creative production; however each song has a change of pace and strips itself back and this can feel a little jarring and messy. Almost like they couldn't decide on a vibe.
It's cute, and perfect coffee shop listening.
Ahhh, I had high hopes here. The album cover is a vibe, and I'm a fan of what I have heard from Kings of Leon in the past; but this just didn't hit the spot for me.
It started kind of strong with the likes of 'Ballerina Radio' and 'Nowhere To Run', but then it just got a bit same-y and a lot of these tracks are just duds that will go no further than a single listen. I have always found alt rock to feel very pigeon holed into sounding a certain way and this album ... read more
The vocals are far stronger here in spill tab's third EP. I feel as though she has found a more consistent sound with "KLEPTO", leaning more on the indie pop-rock vibe. I'm more favourable to her older work, due to the production style, but this EP is far more structured and clean.
'CRÈME BRÛLÉE!' is by far the best track and unfortunately where the EP gets going, only for it to end.
There is definite growth here and should she continue to ... read more
'PISTOLWHIP' is exactly what it says on the tin; a certified banger. What follows is a decent mixture of tunes, flirting with bedroom pop and experimenting with some interesting production and vocals. 'Grade A' is also a standout here aside from 'PISTOLWHIP'; however I did find the remaining tracks a little lacklustre - they just felt a little more safe than her previous works.
This short collection of tracks from spill tab are top notch. Every song is its own lil' vibe, and dreamy synths and bedroom pop aesthetic coupled with the French lyrics in 'Calvaire' and 'Santé' are beefy. 'Cotton Candy' then takes a breather and then just blows you away.
I love spill tab. This EP was my introduction to her, and a reason why she remains in my playlists today.
Cuco is such an underrated talent. His style of bedroom-pop is so distinctive to him, and has been Mr. Consistent when it comes to dropping pure vibes on the reg.
With this entry, he has definitely pushed his production up; but again, stays true to the 'Cuco' vibe that made him an artist I fuck with. He is at his strongest when the Bossa nova influences take centre stage, fusing perfecting with his Spanglish vocals and indie pop charm.
Forget love-songs, my dude wrote a love album, and what a journey you are taken on with Blake Ruby here. A truly intimate take on love, finding love and being in love.
I'm sad that no-one else seems to have reviewed this LP here, but I am honoured that I get to set the standard. Blake Ruby is a treasure, his gospel-pop (?) style is infectious, and oh to be "She" in which this project is based off!
I stumbled across 'Jane' by LAUNDRY DAY a few years back and never thought to dive into their discography... until today that is.
Man, they really peaked with 'Jane'. Not a single song on this LP comes close and that really bums me out. Don't get me wrong, a handful of these slap, but they don't match the vibe that 'Jane' does. As the lyrics literally say, "It don't get better than this" - and it really doesn't.
If it wasn't for the awful auto-tuning and the fact it is 2024, and not 2008, this would have been passable. I may be alone here, but I really like it when you can hear the raspiness in her vocals, again, it's a shame it's all been autotuned so harshly (fire whoever was responsible for this), which only adds fuel to the already large fire surrounding JoJo. Not great, stick with TikTok and dancing or at least don't stick with this.
'Karma' do be a lil' bit ... read more

A hyperpop, chaotic and dance-y invasion in my eyes couple with very cute vocals. Not my cup of tea, but I also didn't mind the time I spent with HAKU and "Imaginary friend". Will I be returning? No. Am I happy I was here? Yes.
Olivia's vocals are always so dreamy and haunting, and I love that! I always relate Wasia Project's vibe with driving down a long ass, empty road at night. It fits that vibe perfectly and exactly what I expect and receive every time. The rare Will (?) vocals was probably the standout in this EP - we need more of that!
While this EP doesn't showcase their best work (in my opinion), the consistency is always there, so hats off to this duo. Mad pumped for what is in store in their ... read more
Finally, I can review this album.
Short n’ Sweet is the complete opposite of how I feel regarding my journey with AOTY to get that spam filter removed… Anyways, here we are, Sabrina Carpenter.
“emails i can’t send” was one of my favourite albums of 2022, and while I was lowkey down to silently gatekeeper Ms Carpenter, I am overjoyed at her success. I am sad to see that her recent releases that did get her to mainstream success are nowhere near as good as the ... read more
Remi Wolf has such an addictive energy and voice.
Which makes me so happy to see her kick ass on this new record. Everything gels together, even when the pace is flipped on its head. It's out there, it's fun, it's funky, it makes you wanna move, it's lyrically playful and honest, and I'm getting one hell of a neck ache from bopping my head for 43 minutes straight! Excellent record from one of my favourites in recent time.
PS If you love Remi, and haven't heard ... read more
Perfectly acceptable. I wouldn't say I am a fan of Camila Cabello in any way, but the heat she was getting after releasing 'I LUV IT', I knew I had to be here for this album.
& you know what? Y'all are some haters.
It's messy, yes. None of these are gonna be hits, I know. Why the fuck does Drake have a solo song on here, who knows? But I had a blast with this album. One thing that was odd though, was that all the features on this album seem to have taken the ... read more
This is why I am loving my time on AOTY. I would have never naturally come across this album or duo if it wasn't for this glorious site, so thank you!
With "Imaginal Disk", I feel like I'm constantly being thrown into the past, present and future of music. Matt & Mica are what I like to call, "switched on". They perfectly balance everything they do; from her soft yet punchy vocals and the matt overproduced music that transports you from a hype doll house, to ... read more
Mura Masa's self-titled album and his "Soundtrack to a Death" Mixtape are so unique, and wave-making in his career that when I saw he dropped a new album today, I was hella hyped.
Unfortunately, the hype didn't last long. 'Whenever I Want' was pretty sick, and I was thrusting to the beat, thinking to myself, "We have a winner here", and then it kind of just went down hill. Don't get me wrong, the album is solid, but there isn't much here to ... read more
I felt as though I was drifting down a lake in the most peaceful forest imagined. Luna's dreamy asf vocals and the floral, soft melodies that accompany her were one hell of a smooth ride.
Going from 'I Imagine' into 'Enigami' is where I truly ascended and felt like that SpongeBob meme where he floats above his bed with headphones in.
"When a Thought Grows Wings" is a beautiful little LP; but it does lack a standout song or two which prevents her tracks from ... read more
I was surprised by how god-damn funky "Radiosoul" is, especially since I wasn’t familiar with Alfie’s music before hitting play so had no clue what I was in store for.
The album is a vibrant, high-energy blend of indie, funk, soul, disco, pop... I could go on, that somehow manages to maintain a consistent vibe throughout. Alfie’s exceptional vocal range really stands out, though I was slightly disappointed that he often relies on his falsetto in many choruses. While ... read more
It's feels like every lesson (or mistake) they learned from "Father of the Bride" has been ignored (or improved) with "Only God Was Above Us". A trim, 10 track record, not a single song under 3:30, it really feels like each song here was meticulously crafted with deep layers of musical production and a real focus from all those involved. This feels like an album, and not a collection of singles.
I also get this sense of this being the start of a "Vampire Weekend ... read more
