It's not a very popular opinion, but I definitely prefer No Code to all the previous studio albums released by Pearl Jam. Their approach to grunge and alternative rock has sparked plenty of hits and iconic songs that I can't resist, but in terms of a general vibe, feeling, and sound, this album offers so much more from other genres I am in a much closer relationship with. You've got some minimalistic indie here, some folk rock, some garage rock, a healthy dose of usual Pearl Jam alt-rock and even a full on Queens Of The Stone Age number, which can be heard in "Mankind". The way the styles kept switching and turning the ship in an entirely different direction made for a very entertaining listen, and while I'm still at it, I have to give my compliments to the absolutely beautiful "Off He Goes", which is probably one of the main reasons why I'm even going through the entire discography of this band. Give No Code a chance, with an open mind it's going to be a great ride for you.
