Fucked Up - Grass Can Move Stones, Part 1: Year of the Goat
85

Part one of an expansive 10 part series to conclude Fucked Up's Zodiac series.

This thing is ornate, much different than the 4 more accessible poppier punk albums they released the last couple of years - 2 huge, sprawling 28 minute epics following loosely the story Journey to the West, written by Wu Cheng'en, a story serving as a foil to Fucked Up's music career thus far, complete with story/lyric sheets. Read along as you listen, fun!

Chumbawamba - Jacob's Ladder (Not In My Name)

Now that's a good ass single. Folktronica vibes and some stellar, catchy lyrics - if only it caught on. It's such a chill yet affecting track. B-sides are nice as well.

Chumbawamba - Give The Anarchist A Cigarette

The song repeats itself a little eesny bitsy too much 🤏 in terms of repeating the chorus and lyrics, with the third verse kind of unnecessary - but it's such a good ass chorus, it sounds amazing. Near perfection as a single.

Chumbawamba - Her Majesty

Yes, it's the The Beatles' song, but now with added verses, sections, and more anti-monarchist sentiments. Fun! And you can get it on their site for free. Thanks for the gift, Chumbawamba.

Garth Brooks - The Dance

Call me whatever, but I drank near two bottles of wine one night and cried during listening to The Dance, so. It must be a good ass song. Now the resulting stomachache and headache was absolutely debilitating, so I don't recommend drinking near two bottles of wine, but I do recommend little known Garth Brooks hit The Dance.

CW: gross stuff

It's funny. I found a band because of a controversy. Usually it is the other way around.

This album is damn incredible, especially that final track, a buildup so immense I would have liked to see it live, it would have been amazing to see before...you know.

Imagine quitting making music as heavy and as good as this to then (allegedly) go make vomit movies where you make women puke all over the place and (allegedly) adopt the most edgy name you can muster.

What a shame. ... read more
