November 15th, 2024. Like Chris Cornell's socially troubled protagonist, I woke the same as any other day, except the voice in my head was just the alarm. 6:30 AM. Time to get up and go to work again. Ugh. At least it's Friday. I dragged myself out of bed after almost falling asleep again several times and started to get ready. Get dressed. Drink water. Take antidepressant medication. Eat breakfast... nah, don't have time for that. Should have gotten out of bed sooner. Fuck. In ... read more
Title: "Is This a Good Record? Yes. Is It a Good Underscores Record? I'm Not Sure."
I've been a fan of Underscores for about a year and a half now, and she's probably my favorite "new" artist that I've discovered in recent memory. "New" as in "emerged in recent times", not "new to me personally". Someone on the AOTY Discord told me to listen to Wallsocket, I liked it immediately, and that album has just grown in stature in ... read more
Interesting project we have here. From what I can tell, this was supposed to be a smash hit. Human Waste Project seemed to have everything going for them. They got signed to a big label, they got a big producer with established nu metal cred, they were from the part of California where nu metal really started happening, and they were friends with and played shows with all the nu-metal bands of those days, big and small. And the diversity in their lineup was kind of ahead of its time. You'd ... read more
I found out about Oklou because a track of hers featuring Underscores, "Harvest Sky", has consistently been the top track on Underscores' Apple Music page for the majority of the time that I've known about Underscores. I don't usually go for features. It's rare that they give you the "best of all worlds" experience that you want from a collaboration. It doesn't help that Underscores is pretty much the only artist in her genre (the varied indie ... read more
There isn't much music that I truly hate. Even though my most notable moments on this site are me expressing dislike of something, it takes a lot for me to truly be angry that some music exists. I'll say that critical punching bags like Creed, Nickelback, and Imagine Dragons suck all day long, but their presence doesn't offend me because I can usually just laugh at them. Experimental or indie music that I've said I dislike on here doesn't offend me because it's ... read more
There's something about this album, man. Even though Fuel's big hit "Hemorrhage" is in the same crowd of miserable divorced dad anthems as "It's Been Awhile", "Blurry", and "Driven Under". Even though Fuel is in the same crowd of 90s post-grunge hitmakers that didn't stand the test of time and are better left forgotten like Live, Tonic, and Collective Soul. There's just something about this album that makes it edge out all the ... read more
