This is one of the coolest things I've ever heard lol. That horn breakdown sends me to heaven every time I listen to it.
Probably the weakest Couch track, overall! Still not too shabby. This is another one that has since been fixed, but the fixed version is only available when you see them live. The studio version has mediocre mixing, a slightly grating hook, and a too-slow tempo. However, it lays all the groundwork for the dynamite live version that I love! Funny how that works lol.
Beautiful ballad track! Lush, understated orchestrations that slowly build into an incredible crescendo, with fantastic guest vocals from Jackson Lundy!
Super solid early single that has an admittedly underwhelming orchestration compared to their more recent material. The rerecording they did for the Sweater Sessions is outstanding tho!
A genuinely perfect EP, in my opinion. Each track has fantastic writing, brilliant instrumental performances, and is tied together by Tema's unbelievable vocals. There's both a sense of stylistic variety, and sonic cohesion, something that's difficult to capture on a record. My favorite tracks are LA and Jessie, but they all fucking rule. I've cried to Let Me Hold You before.
Favorite Tracks: LA, Jessie
Least Favorite: None
Absolute fire, front to back. Probably their weakest release in terms of consistency, which is saying something because these tracks are all super solid lol. Still Feeling You and Fall Into Place are definitely the highlights. Those two tracks are punchy as all hell, with Fall Into Place bringing an unbelievable sense of scale, scope, and stakes to its instrumentation.
Couch will always have two primary appeals: the first is Tema Siegel and her incredible voice. The second is that they're ... read more
I thought this thing fuckin' ruled! I'm honestly surprised to see it rated so low by some folks. The opening was a really jaunty and fun bluegrass-inspired tune, Piano Man the song is (of course) an instant classic, but many of the deep cuts are great too! The Ballad of Billy the Kid is yet another great example of Joel's love for sweeping narrative lyricism, and so is Captain Jack. You're My Home was really sweet, If Only I Had the Words (to Tell You) was great, and so was ... read more
The Stranger is an interesting record in Billy Joel's discography, on account of just how many all-time greatest rock n' roll tracks are featured on it. The first six tracks are virtually unimpeachable, which is a massive achievement for an album that's only nine songs long!
Movin' Out is an incredible opener, bringing a great sense of urgency to the table, backed by fantastic production and Joel's signature storytelling-focused lyricism. The Stranger is an out-and-out ... read more
Everything I wanted it to be and more. Theater magic at its absolute finest.
Not as good as the original version (it's missing that extra punch that the guitars and drums provided), but still a beautiful and well-written song!
A genuinely fantastic ballad. I can't remember the last time I heard two singers have this much chemistry in a song. Their voices blend absurdly well, the song crescendos to a glorious fever pitch, the guitar solo alone could seduce my pants off, and holy shit why was the pop music this year so GOOD?!?
Honestly really good! Plenty of room to grow on me, I'd say.
The versions of these songs I always wished I could hear. World-class vocal talent, fantastic musical theater production, fantastically catchy tunes.
Holy shit this is one of the strongest pop projects I've heard in a long, long time. Consistently throwing new and interesting ideas at me, while still sounding cohesive and intentional in its creativity. Has some of the most lush, detail-oriented production I've heard in a long, long time. I am genuinely so impressed and glad this exists!!

The longer I've spent with this album, the more I've grown to enjoy it — even the songs I once considered to be bland auditory mush have grown on me quite a bit. This is a really really solid, enjoyable pop record, and has some moments of genuinely brilliant songwriting spread across it.

How is this thing just as solid, if not better, than the original album?!?
While nothing quite tops Emotion's highs, such as Run Away With Me and All That, this track list is still fantastic from front to back, and genuinely doesn't contain a single dud. Take notes music industry, this is how you do pop music! It's so wonderfully upbeat, warm, and energetic, while never once feeling phoney or generic. The production is as top tier as it comes, and the songwriting comes with ... read more
Not only is this album a fantastic collection of tracks, but it has some of the best track flow and placement I've seen in years. The transitions between ballads, bangers, and everything in between is so smooth and strikes such a good balance that it's genuinely hard to feel bored listening to it, even in its slowest, most sentimental moments.
Beyond that, the songwriting is great, and aside from a few production choices that I don't LOVE (the overreliance on chorused vocals ... read more
