Casiopea - カシオペア [Casiopea]
100

I've been looking around trying to find something that sounded like the night theme in Nintendo Land and somehow stumbled upon Casiopea. Spoiler: They don't sound that Nintendo Land theme at all, but I think I discovered something even better than it. This album was absolutely amazing. There was never a dull second in the entire 36-minute joyride. It gets hard to describe why the songs are so amazing because there are so many good things happening one after the other that you end up ... read more

Plumtree - Mass Teen Fainting
83

Plumtree did so well with this one. So many things done right and making each song sound uniquely similar.

Tropical has a lot of nice doubling, a great guitar backing track plus nice plucks on top of those. The vocals are perfect too, although they are a little too quiet. Production wise, it's pretty damn good. I love how the bass matches the guitar, but I feel like the bass could've been a bit more interesting. Still great.

Open the Window is one I can't really get into, ... read more

Plumtree - Predicts The Future
87

Plumtree had to stand because of the greatest movie of all time, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and I am very glad that I decided to give them a shot. Their guitar is always amazing, their vocals are fun and great drum beats. Predicts the future is a very good album, I'd say one of the best hidden gems out there.

GO! It is fast, energetic and full of fun. Even though the vocals on this track aren't the greatest, it is just a good time to listen to it, gets you pumped up!

Gorillaz - The Mountain
75

The Mountain stands as Gorillaz's 9th studio album, coming in after Cracker Island. When The Happy Dictator dropped last year, I had very high hopes for the album, even though I knew the overall atmosphere would be similar to what my mom would listen to. I really hated the music she listened to, but after listening to The Mountain, I might have to appreciate it a bit more.

The Mountain is the title and opening track. It is a simple instrumental track but very soothing at that. It does a ... read more

Green Day - nimrod.
94

nimrod. Green Day's 5th studio album and boy do the make it special. The last of their crazy run through the 90's but it's a very memorable closer for the era. But it would easily prove that this was a damn near experiment

Nice guys finish last is a great opening track with solid bass and great drums, however the vocals aren't my favorite, especially since it's suppose to set the tone for the album. I do like it as an opener, but it started losing me the more I ... read more

EVER - BREATHE
80

A short and sweet album sitting at about 27 minutes, but EVER made a pretty good tracklist out of that short time. It's heavy, vocals are great, and drums are amazing, but there are a lot of hit-or-miss songs.
RIOT is a great opener. Lots of energy, the instruments sound pretty good, and again, the vocals hit the spot. Good emphasis on the bass, and overall a very good song (88).
BEND(y) is weirder, not in a bad way at all. Great bassline throughout and a pretty catchy chorus. But it feels ... read more

Green Day - Kerplunk!
89

Kerplunk! was Green Day's second album after 39/Smooth. This is possibly my favorite Green Day album out of all of them. Though I think that Dookie is objectively better, so many songs in Kerplunk hit home in my mind. While listening to the album, you can definitely hear some riffs and lines that would eventually be expanded in Dookie and Insomniac. For example, one of the parts of the chorus in 80 reminds me of the When I Come Around main riff.
2000 light-years away is a very good opener, ... read more
