Casting Crowns returns for the deluxe version of their very short 2021 album, Healer, adding another 7 tracks. Most of the new tracks blend right in to the original, with very few standing out from a vague CCM sound.
The original album is strong in its overall sound, but to chop up the tracklisting and intersperse new songs within gives it a very different sound. While some songs go for a very solemn, melancholy sound, such as "Song of a Broken Heart" and "Scars In Heaven," ... read more
Back for his third solo studio album, Starringo drops Forever Me, which, different than any other project he has, does not feature any other artists; only Starringo rapping and singing all the way through.
The two singles on the project, "I'm Really Like This" and "No Awards," are arguably the best tracks on the album, with some clean flows and melodies on each. But almost no other track lives up to the singles; the listener is left with a very forgettable, almost boring ... read more
Caesura II is a collection of some of the best underground rap and R&B artists that Christian music has to offer, all on one project. DJ LostNFound lives up to his title for himself, the "DJ Khaled of CHH," getting over 50 artists on one project to make some crazy collaborations.
The whole project is more like a mixtape than an album; it doesn't have one distinct theme throughout, and it has a lot of previously released singles as well. Many of the collabs work well; ... read more
Hymn Of Heaven is music for the soul. Phil Wickham makes arguably his most cohesive, thoughtful project ever with beautiful vocals, original and well-written lyrics and a heart for God seen clearly in every song.
Every single track contributes to this project. From front to back, you get one consistent feeling of worship and praise that shines in a number of different styles and formats. A few songs stand out both musically and lyrically: "Battle Belongs", "Hymn of Heaven", ... read more
Rend Collective makes their return with Whosoever, featuring a number of new tracks about confidence and faith through Jesus. The whole album is an excellent flavor of Northern Ireland, mixing traditional sounds with elements of pop and rock to make something original.
The beauty of the three singles ("As For Me", "Plans" and "Let It Roll") is that they're not necessarily even the best tracks of the album, and yet work as their own songs and provide a good sampler ... read more
350's debut album, Love You, Divine <3, shows some very mature, real-life lyrics from the rapper. Featuring catchy and original hooks, solid lyrical verses, and great features, 350 cements his place within CHH with this piece of art.
As you listen to Love You, Divine <3, you can feel yourself drifting into 350's world as he uses melodic beats that all flow together and vibey melodic choruses. Songs like "REGARDLESS" and "DISCONNECT" are excellent pieces of lyrical ... read more
Overall, GOD DID is a solid vibe. The tracks flow well into each other and most of the features contribute their part to the album. Tracks like "GOD DID" and "BEAUTIFUL" are very listenable and enjoyable sonically, and most of the album shares the same feelings. Khaled even directs some of the tracks in a new spiritual direction, even getting Eminem to rap an entire verse about Jesus.
However, the album struggles to find a singular voice. More God-oriented songs as ... read more
Imagine Dragons returns for what appears to be the better half of the Mercury two-parter. Mercury - Act 2 features a lot of acoustic rock and experimentation from the band, but it did it work?
Let’s start with the singles. “Bones” and “Sharks” are both very catchy and have appeal for a lot of people. Unfortunately, the album doesn’t live up to these great songs in its entirety. The whole project is pretty hit-or-miss: we get some decent songs interspersed ... read more
With her debut album, Anne Wilson delivers something special on My Jesus. Combining elements of pop and country, she makes an album that doesn't sound like typical music within either genre, crafting instead a unique mix that gives glory to God and tells stories in Anne's own way.
From more upbeat swing-type songs like "Sunday Sermons" and "Devil" to more soulful, thoughtful songs like "Something About That Name" and "This House", and to the slow, ... read more
Cheat Codes is one of the most consistent, coherent albums this year. Danger Mouse’s production shows creativity, originality, and skill, and Black Thought spits some high-level, thoughtful verses all along the way.
The features all do their part, from A$AP Rocky to Conway the Machine. The beats fit the rapping near perfect, and in every song, we hear a different story and style that all add up to a beautiful masterpiece.
Danger Mouse and Black Thought deliver one of 2022’s best ... read more
The End is a masterpiece. After six years without a single project, Trip Lee finally returns with something very special.
Seemingly everything about this album is perfect. The transitions are smooth, the artwork is stunning, the features all fit, the production is top-tier. Trip gives us slower, more thoughtful tracks like "Dreamin" and "Know It", more upbeat bangers like "Right Out The Gate" and "Put Your Weapon Down" that still maintain intentional and ... read more
Matthew Parker is always coming up with new things, and Dragonfly is another enjoyable project from the producer/singer. The album is filled with catchy love songs about his marriage and wife, and on a whole it flows together to form something special.
Nearly every single track is beautiful in its own way, but a few stand out. "Today Is The Day" is one of the few non-love songs, and combined with Hooseki's contrasting voice, an upbeat wake-up anthem is made. "Darling", ... read more
Well, Dominion is certainly an interesting album from Skillet. The singles appear to have been some of its best tracks, but most of the rest of the album is forgettable. It makes for easy casual listening, but if you want something deeper from the band, you'll have to look somewhere else.
On the plus side, many of the individual tracks are great. "Dominion", "Valley of Death", "Forever or the End" and more are in fact good songs. Skillet is able to effectively ... read more
While not necessarily on the level of Burn The Ships, What Are We Waiting For? is a solid follow-up album by for KING & COUNTRY with some great individual tracks.
Each of the singles was enjoyable and soothing, particularly “For God Is With Us” and “Unsung Hero”. “Unsung Hero” is a nice break from the more simplistic songs on the album, providing a lovely track about the band’s parents. Additionally, soulful songs like “Cheering You ... read more
While my knowledge of Spanish is very limited, that didn’t prevent me from thoroughly enjoying Fama y Fe, Tommy Royale’s debut album. With catchy hooks and excellent beat selection, this album is easily one of my favorites of the year.
Every single track brings a unique flavor with it. “Mujer” and “Gitana” are catchy summertime vibes, “Tengo La Luz” and “Corona” are enough to leave you bopping your head, and “Abba” will ... read more
Joy In The Morning is an original, inspirational work from Tauren that stands out in the CCM scene. The album is filled with soulful ballads and upbeat songs about relationships and God.
The best songs seem to be the slower tracks where Tauren is really pouring his heart out: “Empty”, “Afraid With You”, and “Crazy About You”. Tauren has an excellent voice for R&B/soul, and he shows it on these tracks beautifully.
Most of the songs are very well done; ... read more
No Church in a While was certainly…unexpected. Lecrae and 1K Phew isn’t the first collaboration I would go for, but it kind of works. The album flows pretty nicely and most of the tracks are pretty solid and catchy. The diversity between the two artists adds some depth, and we got some bops, like “MOVE” and “One Call”.
On the negative side of things, this album sounds rather basic, as if it was put together in just a couple months. A lot of the lyrics also ... read more
Sheesh…Tobe is making moves. A lot of big collaborations on this surprise drop: CeeLo Green? Royce da 5’9” again? Pharrell Williams? He came out swinging.
The singles have each been amazing in their own ways. “ROUND HERE (PART ONE)” is a great anthem-type song to belt out, “BEEN BROKE” is just plain fun with 2 Chainz and Chamillionaire, “DESTRUCTION” with Coast Contra is insanely good, and “LORD FORGIVE ME” is just a bop ... read more
Never Land II is a true experience. The tracks are very well-connected through unique production and consistent interludes, and the individual tracks each have something to offer themselves.
We see “Nobody’s Coming”, a song about Andy’s dad and overcoming grief. We see uptempo tracks about his marriage like “Trying” and “Working On It”. We even get some new trap bangers like “Been About It” with Lecrae and “You Know the ... read more
