this is my first janelle monáe album and i really really liked it. the sound and mixture of genres is incredible. some songs in the middle i didn’t really vibe with, like django jane and pynk, but that isn’t a big problem, regarding the quality of the other songs.

this was a pretty mediocre album.
while i really liked its predecessor THINK LATER, i just can't find the same emotional depth in the songs of this project. many of the songs are pretty much the same and the repetitiveness doesnt do her favors. at some point i got bored and couldnt wait for the end, but luckily the last few songs were some of the standout tracks of the record.

this album was definitely worth the wait.
the production feels very lush and different from her previous projects. while the album features some upbeat songs like the first single Running Out Of Time, where the album really shines are the ballads. the build ups in songs like Please don’t fall in love with me and Devil Herself are really well done and ensure that the album doesn’t get boring. i feel like the songs in the middle lack a bit in quality but are still amazing.
