Single/EP Tuesday part one!
Today is the third weekly Tuesday, just before the closing of March, the weather is weird, the politics are weird, I feel weird, and the music is hella weird to go right along with it. For my first selection of music today I decided to listen to, per @thekitchenfloor's request, Quadeca's newest project, the ambient "i.ii.iii".
The first track off this album, finale (side note, I love that the first song is called finale. If these end up on a full album please keep that as the beginning), sort of feels like sailing on a raft in the middle of the ocean on a cloudy day, a small trickle bounding from the clouds and plopping into the water surrounding. Really peaceful and the piano mixes wonderfully with the ebbing and flowing synths.
With our second track, á noite, the piano that accompanies our little raft on its journey through our gray little day is replaced by a guitar, strumming quietly and carefully in front of some white noise, which I interpreted as the sound of water. This is beautiful minimalism at its finest, the guitar feels so natural that it seems as though it is being improvised as the mood of the song needs to be. This I say as a compliment, make no mistake, I love when music feels natural and that it flows how it needs to, and that really is how this song makes me feel.
The third song, accordion's remorse, is probably my least favorite of the trio. It's, pretty obviously, an accordion for most of the time, with some choral background vocals and some synths hiding in the background, sort of creating this wall of noise that is gentle yet piercing. It's very different from the other two, if we continue the imagery of the ocean raft it seems as though the sun is rising over the grey clouds and the golden rays are spidering outwards through the mist. It's very climactic, but I feel like it fails to capture the same pure peace that finale and á noite are able to. I've noticed the theme of a single instrument being prominent on each song, with i having piano, ii having a guitar and finally iii being manned by the humble accordion. This track fades into light, electronic notes replacing the accordion entirely until it fades into silence.
Overall I really enjoyed the ambience of this whole thing. It is one of the most peaceful albums I've ever heard, and I'd really love to see more like this.
Edit:
Yeah Accordion's Remorse fucking bangs. Idk what I was thinking.
