considering this was the version with the three bonus tracks

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

Listen it's good and I'm glad he's back but the only tracks that work on here to me are the ones where he's not experimenting and sound like nurture b sides. I'm glad he's experimenting and I still really enjoy this but I hope he returns with a better album next run.
with that said I did enjoy his commentary on his relationship with fans and everything, and the general concept of the album. Sonically is where it disappoints the most

Geordie Greep - The New Sound

Instrumentals? amazing.
Geordies theatre esc vocals? still can't get used to them.
it works sometimes but not really

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

solid solid solid list of songs

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Another album I was pretty disappointed by. Standout tracks for me were dance yrself clean, I can change, and home. The rest were really long, boring and mid. Pow Pow and somebodies calling me I especially hated.

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico

I really don't understand the love for this album. It's either some mediocre Beatles esc songs or completely unlistenable Syd Barrett drug craze playing, especially the back half on this thing. And I would say that the only track the experimental drugged up jam sesh song that works in heroin because of it's simple and easy to grasp concept that also works with the song structure. I also am not a fan of Nico's singing. Something about her accent and it just feels like ... read more

Depeche Mode - Violator

There's a reason why these sounds never made it out of the 80s!!!
I recently had to do the pleasure of listening to this album for a whole week for my album club, and God did I hate it. But before I get into each individual track, I need to explain why Depeche mode's sound pallette and everything about them, sucks balls, real bad.
The drums are so 80s and annoying. 1 example of something from the 80s that aged terribly.
The singer sucks. He has nothing interesting going on about ... read more

Halsey - The Great Impersonator

Its not about Fantano hating on the whole "main character stndrome" idea. It is about her delivery and execution which he is saying is corny and tacky. Just because she went through some shit doesnt give her a free pass for her lyrics to instantly be good. The songwriting is horrendous. There is an art to the feelings and emotions she went through and conveying them into words. its also a show dont tell kinda thing. And also, is he wrong about the instrumentals? and her influences ... read more

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
59

i really hate the placement of save me. The album should have ended on fiction.

Duster - Stratosphere
60

Hot take: Stratosphere is just one big jam session of work shopping the same idea and Inside out is the only good song to come out of it. These are all decent ideas but they use the same 2 chord resolving structure and the same formula. Most of these songs feel pretty unfinished too. Like gold dust and constellations are really nice little loops but thats all they are. Like let's not kid ourselves, Inside out is the star that shines through here and thats because it is a perfect version ... read more

"@skylarcyrus just genuinely wondering why it being a letter to God is important? the musicality of it is what I was complaining about, and that's my whole issue with the album. the idea is great sure, but that doesn't speak for how it was executed."

"This is easily the worst review for any album I have read in my life. The absolute ignorance and lack of research goes to show how stupid a lot of people are on this fucking platform."
On Depeche Mode - Violator
"and I don't care that dude was classically trained, my ears are classically trained to hear some bullshit and I'll call it out if I hear it. and i think I'll thank daft punk for influencing my precious synthpop bands and popularizing good electronic music because they actually knew what the hell they were doing."
On Depeche Mode - Violator
"ha! I gotchu mad as hell! nah this wasn't ragebait. I stand by everything. Except the comment "I wish it was more like brain damage and eclipse" meant I wished they handed the end of the album like pink floyd handled the end of the dark side of the moon. I don't care they used a pink floyd sample from a b side I've never heard of. And I wasn't saying David Bowie isnt memorable, I was saying all the other one hit wonders that no one remembers AND David Bowie. Cuz Bowie's blueprints are all over this album, and frankly I think he did it better, and he can actually sing! As far as you coming at me on being a music theory elitist, I was simply describing why I didn't like a certain progression and had to articulate that in a precise manner."
