An indie pop record with a horrid track flow, samey production and vocal delivery, and lyrics with not much to say or do, leaves a lot to be desired.
"An Awesome Wave" would be an excellent title for a pop sound that washes over you, and sucks you out to a sea of colours, however this is not that, their wave of sound is almost always a loud synth bass. A strangely beautiful folk punk album full of vocal harmonies yearning for a light in the dark, string and brass instrumentation relishing in the mud, and a soul often lost in the chaos. They immediately grabbed my attention when I found the intro track wasn't a one off, and have had me listening on repeat since.

Long Season is a piece that I find hard to recommend, to listen to casually in my daily life, to just call an album or a song, But there is something so intrinsically hypnotic and alluring about it's sounds, that when I'm reminded it exists, I have to sit and listen to the whole thing, and fight to not go for a second round once it finishes. The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? [Reissue]

In the same breath that The Unicorns truly became known, they also died. The album itself knows this and serves as a perfect introduction and last hurrah, for a band that fell apart. This has long been one of my favourite albums for it's childish rejection of normalcy, it's endearing immaturity, and surprisingly beautiful instrumentation that tells fun campfire stories about mortality in it's various forms.
