Man Chino's vocals get so much better on the next few releases. Besides Carpenters mind blowing guitar riffs and Abe's slicing drums, this album leaves a lot to be desired. It sounds like a garage demo and the lyrics are painfully angsty. Lifter almost sounds like their take on Hum but with a nu metal edge to it that i really enjoy. My favorite has to be 7 Words because it's by far the best vocal performance on the record, it actually feels like he's taking it more seriously compared to other ... read more
Lots of great but also a lot of mid. I find the piano stuff to be the peak of this project and the ones without piano to be kind of meh. I just really enjoy the sound of the record, gives me ancient vibes.
A very mixed bag album. The first 2 songs are great though, some of the best songs I've heard this year so far.
Cool collection of songs here. The Birds Attacked My Hot Air Balloon sounds a lot like the Hail to the Thief era of Radiohead and You Get To Decide sounds a little bit like Brave Little Abacus. Loved both of those songs, especially The Birds Attacked My Hot Air Balloon it would be my song of the year if it wasn't released at some point last year.
EDIT (78 ---> 84) Scaling Walls finally clicked with me but I can't get into Exit Blocked.
Beats and production go hard but this project doesn't go without its flaws. The feature from oakie on ensnare was atrocious and the beats on bishop made it feel like my brain was bouncing inside my head and not in a good way at all but it's still very well made and also Album Cover of the Year question mark?
Definitely will give this another listen when the lyrics get released. Pretty constantly good all throughout the album but there's not a song that goes over the edge for me but it's all worth a listen for sure!
Starts off very slowly but picks up when Adore Adore Adore starts. The album peaks at Shadow of a Doubt. It takes everything that's good from this record and makes it better. If you like the band Hole, I think you'll really like this one.
Wow I'm impressed!
The beats are phenomenal and the lyrics while can be a little too dramatic and out of pocket for me still impress me.
The main part I love about this project is the very fucked up story, I always like my concept albums.
The only problems here is that BennyBob is very one note as a singer but his flows are fantastic and that the album itself can be very one note but they're not huge problems at the end of the day.
Just impressed, big W
idk why this works but it does. hard enough to stay alive is the best song I've heard this year so far!
EDIT (85 ---> 81) still good but I'm finding that I think count me in is slowing fading away from me
A album will never give me more chills than this album. Nothing's more powerful than this.
The production is definitely the best part about this project. I do love MOTTO and the intro, those are keepers absolutely bang.
This shit gets repetitive way too quickly. Now if you keep songs like Armchair, Descenda, Crack of Your Jaw, Whiplash, and Pack It Up that would make a badass EP!
EDIT (67 ---> 77) Everything got better after every listen except Whiplash and 2 Cigs.
Some real beautiful moments on here but has some very dull moments. I Do and Big Wheel are huge standouts.
Idk if its just my headphones but they need to turn up the volume like damn. The album would feel less rushed if they would turn it up a couple notches. Good music though, love me some midwest emo.
Only a few songs are worth your attention but it's a well made album nonetheless.
Most of the songs left me with nothing at all but i wanna be the guy was not it yikes... sail is pretty nice though.
