I first heard this album a little over a year ago when I had a forty minute drive to take my drivers test. At the first song I was unsure about the album but I pushed through because I knew it was just my hate for new things tainting my perspective. What a wide scope captured by this artist! So many builds and rhythmic complexities from song to song. The album feels full and transitions from song to song are smooth. The album functions as one unit. The only negative is with the lyrics. The obsessive Biblical references seemed unnecessary coming from a band that does not have ties to Christianity. Personally not a fan of this aspect but everything else was amazing.
I listened to this album on repeat in 2024 after a neighbor recommended the artist. I haven't craved it much since but it was refreshing revisit. I appreciate the simplicity of the album. It's the perfect simplicity. The music doesn't sound basic but rather calming. I've been listening to Alien Blues for 5 years and decided to give the entire album a listen.
Chop- Strong start but had me thinking it was going to be the only creative song in a basic beach pop album. HOWEVER the vocals are straight art. I love the inflections.
Oulala- I ADORE how unapologetically rough the vocals are. THE FALSETTO PART IS TO DIE FOR IT'S SO GOOD. The little guitar moments throughout the album just really add to the build of the song.
