Initial reaction is... It's quite boring. I wasn't overly hyped for it, I'll admit. I didn't hate The Golden Casket like others did, I had low expectations for it and somehow it surpassed those. This, I had none - I enjoyed Picking Dragons Pockets, but the other singles were uninspiring to me.
With it just being Isaac Brock now this doesn't really feel like an actual Modest Mouse album, just an expression of Brock's psyche, with no restraint. Produced partially ... read more
A vast improvement over his last solo outing, though I could do with some more.
Somehow Will Toledo became the George Lucas of indie rock.
Kinda painful to give this score bc I truly think Katie Alice Greer is an incredibly talented artist. Everything she did with Priests was excellent, and while her debit solo album was a mixed bag, it showed she hadn't lost her daringness. This has two solid tracks in Expo 70 and Unglued, the rest just meanders. Not a good representation of what she's capable of.
A solid, if not conventional, return to form after 2021s mediocre outing. Rocky, garagey, Courtney-ey.
I don't feel like xavier is the most gifted rapper on the planet - def not the worst - but his technical abilities deserve praise. It's almost dream pop influenced in places, like he's got M83's Anthony Gonzalez in the studio with him on tracks like Harajuku. That alone makes this project worth a spin.
Kinda surprised by the negative reactions to this. It's a perfectly serviceable indie rock album, reminiscent of the 2000s boom, which makes sense given that Peaer rose from the ashes of that era's underappreciated pillars like Pinback and Mew.
Nothing new, but nothing bad either and worth a listen if you're nostalgic for that sound.
Stereogum gave this album a shoutout and I'm glad they did, been jamming it for a few weeks now. It's a great slice of power pop lofi rock. I dig it.
A very early 2026 gem. I'm a fan of how it blends math, slowcore, and dream pop together. Vocals are soft and inviting. Favorite track is Mantras but it's all great.
