This album is actually phenomenal. It just feels like such a complete project with a perfectly crafted soundscape with Yachty's unusual vocals that surprisingly are worked into the album so that they fit the tone perfectly.
Honestly I didn't expect too much going into this as I haven't been a fan of any other AJR projects but I can say that certain moments on this album show potential for maybe some maturity in their sound in a future project. But this is not that yet. This is pretty bad.
Honestly been waiting for this album for ages and genuinely worth the wait. This album is incredibly diverse but this kind of serves it well as it seems like a collage of sorts. This doesn't stop it from keeping lyrical and musical themes returning to reinforce the overall picture of the album. Love everything about this from a lyrical, musical and production perspective. Also it has a lot of reference to Ren's previous discography with little motifs and lines for fans to pick up on. Glad it ... read more
This album is a masterclass in songwriting, production, theme and performance. I can't describe how perfect this goddamn thing is.
I cannot explain the love I have for this album's production. The production and electronics infused with choir really stop BoS from falling into just another heavy detuned deathcore band. Kyle's vocals on this project are extremely impressive technically and I feel they are tasteful and he saves the stupidest vocal flourishes for the stupidly heavy drops. Riffs and groove on this thing are amazing and I couldn't talk about this album without talking about the amazing art.
Love this EP only complaint is that I find the first half of Blinded to not be super interesting and different from anything brand of sacrifice have done before though it's still an ignorant heavy banger for the moshpit.
One of Ren's most captivating performances. A harrowing tale based on a news report he had read. Love the classical tinge to the guitar playing with the narrative rapping and singing. Without Violet's Tale though listening to the original feels slightly incomplete in hindsight.
Brilliant extra bit of flavour added to the singles off Sick Boi with a more rock edge to it. Also really enjoy the chorus melody and vocals throughout. Second verse is reminiscent of the internal dialogue we see play out in Hi Ren.
I think this project has some of Ren's best but also some of his most forgettable and to me feels slightly worse than Demos 1. Still only has one or two songs I don't revisit often.
This album has been on repeat for a while for me. A collage of fun easy listening bangers with a variety of different influences on display. Lyrics also are a highlight which range from songs like Love Music, Pt.3 with fun puns and wordplay not to be taken seriously to songs like Dear God and Money Game,Pt.2 dealing with subjects like spirituality and capitalism. Love this project and have loved it since it came out.
Even though I believe Ren's later projects showed his talent more consistently this album is still filled with great songs going from more heartfelt moody songs to fun Ska-flavoured rap bangers with silly lyrics. Overall I think the album works more as a collage of good music rather than a total coherent project but I think that works fine here.
