This was wildly different than what I expected but I love it. The auto tune hit me weird on the first listen but I got used to it by the next listen and started to really appreciate it by the third or fourth.
This is my favorite Coldplay album alongside A Rush of Blood to the Head. This album narrowly beats that one for me due to how much I love the messaging and lyrics of the album. It's all about the great dynamics and conflicts within life —war, death, love, living, struggle, power—and weaves it together throughout some of the best produced songs I've ever heard.
Some particular standouts for me are Cemeteries of London, Lovers in Japan, Yes, Viva La Vida, and Violet Hill. ... read more
