Modest Mouse - An Eraser and A Maze
48

Save "Third side of the Moon" I really dislike how this new Modest Mouse album opens up. I love these guys, early Modest is one of my favorite pieces of discography, but between their newfound direction and Isaac's voice changing due to his age, this just feels like a completely different band in my opinion. And not really in a development kind of way, I just dont really find this to be in line with the rest of their stuff. Granted, I didn't listen to their 2015 and 2021 ... read more

Might change in a relisten, but I'm not that fond of "Barrio enfermizo". I think it works as it should, but sonically, I'm not enamored. The rest of the record though... Holy fucking shit, this is the most beautiful and emotional Reggaeton has ever sounded in the history of forever. This is insane, like, I could see myself crying to this mixtape. I wish I change my mind on "Barrio enfermizo" because otherwise, this is literally perfect. And when I say "Barrio ... read more

Lexxter - soe

Got to this record because of th weed420 feature, and now that I want to delve into their whole discography, I though I wanted to taste something similar first. Its definitely not what I was expecting when I pressed play, even through the very evident "Alt R&B" tag staring at me in the face. Nevertheless, Lexxter provides a beauitfully rich soundscape that is not at all like weed420's aesthetic, but a stark compliment to it. Very ambitious stuff, and I couldn't expect ... read more

Ivo Wan Kenobi - DIONNA
83

New (I'm so fucking late though) promise kid in the scene? Like yo, I only peeped this record because my girlfriend's bunny is named Ivo as well, but holy the range on this record is nuts. Dionna might be one of the best songs 2023. This shit is HARD, I so want to see where he goes because he could be a next big name. Watch out for my man Ivo gang. El reguetón Chileno me salvó la vida. Pal hoyo.

Least Favorite: ESMERALDA

Paul McCartney - The Boys of Dungeon Lane
69

The start of this record is absolutely electric. For Paul at this age to be making music like this is insane. Even then, I feel like it kind of overstays its welcome and becomes less interesting by the minute with a few ups later down the tracklist. Even if I'm not particularly fond of how it came out as a complete product, the existence and scope of this project is astounding.

weed420 - amor de encava

I just can't believe these guys. This album has solidified my long love with plunderphonics, genuinely the best genre oat when done correctly. This amalgam of sounds is a beauitful salpicado of culture; an ensalda of rich understanding of latin arts and an ode to ceremonious love and passion for heritage. It doesn't quite do what Malandreo Conceptual does for me at least, but its so powerful and zealous in a manner that I've never seen before.

METODOMATE - Nuestra Concepción de lo Posible

I think this record does a lot of stuff so commendably well, but in its ambigiousness, struggles to stick the landing on many others. What I can't blame this record of, is holding back. I think with time I'll be able to determine how much I truly like it, but for now, I'm glad this project exists. Looking forward to these guys. I need more emo on the Chilean scene. My score will change, mark my words.

Greg Mendez - Beauty Land

I just wouldn't really listen to this over any Eliott Smith record at any point, so yeah. Its nice, but too nice. Too comfortable. And I'm all for subtle albums, but I don't see any reason to pick this over something else in the genre, it just gets buried by its own lack of weight.

SHINee - Atmos
42

Yeah Idk what people are hearing to be honest. Granted, i have no idea who these guys are, I just stumbled across this as a highly-rated K-Pop record which is always interesting to see. Nevertheless I don't get much at all from this. HOURS is dope truth be told, and possibility also has its kick, so I enjoyed both of those. Otherwise, positively numb to it. The title track is annoying, I can't see the hype.

Favorite Song: HOURS
Least Favorite: Atmos

Freddie Gibbs - RBT
66

Freddie sound so fucking powerful always man. Such a generational performer. With time I come to realize how much his stuff moves me. This EP in particular is a short tease of his style which has yet to feel stale even after all these years. My only real problem is that its merely an appetizer (though a pretty tasty one at that) inside a very stacked catalogue. So even if its plenty enjoyable, I'd just use this as an excuse to go and listen to some other Freddie project.

While staying realatively shy from being bold, its still undoubtedly quirky. I don't now, I think this one might be a grower because its just so pleasant to listen to. Still its nothing crazy I don't think, though I certainly see myself coming back.

Various Artists - Scores

How my scores work:

0: Not only does it have no redeeming musical qualities, I think it’s actively harmful.
1–9: There’s absolutely nothing to salvage; the difference between a 9 and a 1 is merely how damaging I find its existence.
10–19: Trash with one or two (depending on how long it is) slightly salvageable songs
20–29: They exist completely outside the spectrum of my passion, whether due to their sound or their cultural reach. I find about 10% of the album ... read more

FaceBrooklyn - caricias

I don't really like how this album opens up; the first two songs are pretty mild and not what I've come to enjoy about Feis and his reach within the genre. However, the rest of the record picks up a into a, albeit not revolutionary setlist, but a great consice punch of tracks. Even within its relative subtlety, which is fair since this is his debut album, I still see what makes him a standout in the Chilean scene at least in my opinion.

Not quite the boundless masterpiece that Umineko manages to build across its limitlessly expanisve masterclass of orchestra, but a brilliantly exhilarating ordeal, and a rip-roaring monumental symposium of sound, holy beffiting of its epic of epics, heavenly gauntlet placed upon earth. Were my descriptions not outlandishly overemphasized and preposterously embellished, the actors at the core of its dance would mock my indolence reflective of my mortality. Such ... read more

Converge - Love Is Not Enough
62

Converge continues to prove they're the only real band that makes me enjoy metalcore. Nevertheless its not a record I'd really play again I don't think. They simply have better stuff and metalcore is not something I look up to re-experience because I'm not very fond of it in the first place. I commend them for being able to continue to make interesting stuff all these years later though.

E L U C I D - I Guess U Had To Be There
61

Too evasive to grasp ahold of me. The sound slightly floats above feet level so its never really grounded, which I'd never assume would be its intentions, but the force at the backhand of its slap is dim due to a sound that gets lost in translation between poetry and craftsmanship. Nevertheless I do still think it manages to accomplish a landscape that actually feels immersive, sadly that may be absent outside of its holistic overview though.

Tiffany Day - HALO
72

I had no clue who Tiffany Day was before listening to this, and I'd say above all else I come out not quite captivated but certainly attracted to her sound. Even if within the scope of EDM she appears to be a more subtle take on the genre, I can't say I'm opposed to the idea. Tiffany herself doesn't do that whole lot for me, but the production that backs her up is unapologetically fun, one hell of a sugar rush. Really cool to be honest.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP

Beyond me liking more or less some of the tracks on this album, and thinking that a bunch of production choices feel sonically intriguing or artistically challenging, I can't really keep sticking up for Peggy man. If anything, this album is the bullet of a bitter truth: Peggy is not someone I can look up to anymore. It's just upsetting gang. And even at the length of this song stacked fiesta there's honestly surprisingly little cohesion in its quality. Its sparce and so far ... read more

The fact that a record like this even exists boggles every corner of my mind. Tailored made for me holy shit. There's genuinely nothing I appreciate more than a bold, striking, experimental, daring, intrepid reggaeton. And these guys and their passion is so stupidly contagious, I've really come to hate the fact that I can't really play this at a house-party but I wish everyone mildly interested in the genre could peep a listen. Álvaro Díaz - OMAKASE

I think its better than Sayonara in some ways, but not quite as achieving in others. In any case, I still hold my ground with Alvarito being one of the most interesting voices of the whole genre. I wish it commited further with the whole kitchen/chef/omakase shtick though, I feel like there was a lot of untapped potential there. I also would've loved to see him punch harder lyric-wise. I'm not taking a stab at it, but I'm just dreaming of my perfect record yknow? Production wise ... read more
