Californication is a national record for beach lovers, summer travelers and chill gatherings. It's undeniable how influential it has become on rock culture, however, revisiting this record has shown its major weak points over time. The album gives off a nice and safe feeling, however it rapidly loses its shine after repeated listen as you're met with subpar vocals and weak harmonies on certain tracks, especially evident in the latter half of the album. The iconic hits are great, some of them maybe get warn down because they lack the staying power that other radio hits have. I also think the bloated track list muddies those great songs even more as that spark fizzles out. Unfortunately, they cannot heavily lift over what are a half of mediocre additions when these tracks barely compliment one another. It's like a tank full of some beautiful tropical fish , but they have to live with plastic bottles that were thrown in there in order to qualify the tank as "full". This album needed to trim the fat, and unfortunately, suffers from adding as much in as possible.
