At the time of originally reviewing this on Musicboard, I had been bumping this album almost non-stop for two weeks. Now, about a year later, it's my most listened to album of the year. I maintain that this album is incredible and contains some of the most interesting and unique production, combined with the rhymes and pen game from DOOM that continues to be unmatched. It would be an easy "100/100 no notes" but, I really can't look past some of the tracks in the middle of ... read more
Originally, when I listened to this album, I gave it a 77. In the past couple of years however, it's just grown and grown on me.
This is some of the best shoegazey alt-metal I've heard in a good while. Each track has enjoyable vocals from both vocalists, as well as some of the greatest, head crushing riffs in recent memory. Like, I feel that these riffs outpace even bands like Deftones with some of their more recent work.
Each song is short but sweet, with the whole project coming ... read more
in conclusion, i can't stop crying
this album is so heartbreaking but so beautiful.
Comparatively, it feels like I'm cooler on this record than most, but it equals out because of my Aesop Rock bias, I suppose.
This album is pretty good. I'm not super crazy about it but it's full of pretty enjoyable and verbose tracks, particularly towards the back half of the record. You know what you're getting into with an Aesop Rock record: verbose and complex rhymes, topics from introspection to novel things, interesting production - and this album delivers all those ... read more
After really getting into Deftones in '22, I was worried that this wouldn't be a hit. I didn't really enjoy Ohms as much as many others, Gore wasn't a personal favourite, and I was worried the trajectory wasn't to my taste.
How glad I am to be wrong.
From the first single, and the opener to the record, 'my mind is a mountain', I knew this album was gonna be different to their other recent work, and I feel confident calling this as a top 3 Deftones ... read more
Pandemonium:
Keeps that frantic energy heard in Chaos, but feels a lil bit more structured and organised. What it gains in organisation, I feel it loses in frantic enjoyable energy so they both come out to be about equal.
War:
Controversially, I think War is the best track in the entire ULTRAKILL soundtrack and my favourite boss theme in recent memory, period.
The somber, slow intro before the main theme kicks in like a sledgehammer. Then it just moves from section to section, building a ... read more
[tl;dr 89/100. an super solid modern darksynth project.]
In reality, this is the best 2020s synth project I've heard as of yet. It keeps things fresh with a more alien sounding theme and soundscape, whilst bringing in interesting choices to hold your attention (like Saturday Night Screamer's siren like intro.)
There isn't any moments on the album that feel really sleeper, even slower tracks like Fallen Haven feel pretty engaging and enjoyable in the course of the album.

[tl;dr, 96/100. there's a reason its so popular despite the reputation]
alright let's get it out of the way.
- yes, this album has a reputation to say the least.
- yes, this album talks about Anne Frank a lot.
- yes, the lines "I LOVE YOU JEEEESUUUUS CHRIIIIIIIIIIST", "Semen stains the mountaintops" and a few others are all peculiar.
but, get past that and this is a beautiful, depressing and thoroughly enjoyable album. I originally picked it up back in 2017, but ... read more
[tl;dr 67/100. high highs, low lows.]
Death Grips are potentially my favourite music group, but this could be their worst album for me. It's not *bad* by any means, but it just has a good amount of misses compared to their usual batting average.
This album sees Flatlander and Zach Hill taking more focus than MC Ride's vocals. This, in itself, is not a bad thing - in fact, their side project (The ILYs) is very good, and shows that MC Ride isn't the be all, end all of Death ... read more
[tl;dr, 92 / 100. probably the second best darksynth album, ever.]
For me, darksynth as a genre had three crowning artists during the period where I started to really get invested, those being Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, and the heaviest of the three, GosT. After hearing Behemoth and really enjoying the darker and more demonic sound, I was excited to pick up the CD for Non Paradisi.
This album is actually possessed. It's everything GosT was doing on Behemoth, but taken further and ... read more
[tl;dr, 97 / 100. zero filler, all killer.]
I don't think there's a single hip-hop album that changed my hip-hop listening habits and tastes more than RTJ2. This album is certified insane, every single track has a killer beat to fit the vibe, has hard hitting (and sometimes thought provoking) lyrics and an energy some rappers could only dream of.
The start of this album may be one of the best four song runs out there, stretching from:
- the hard hitting opener, Jeopardy, which ... read more
Unbelievable punk album, may just be my favourite one of all time. So many iconic DK tracks, so many good moments.
As you'd expect with a DK album, plenty of politically charged and hard hitting punk bangers, Jello's vocals hit the spot perfectly, and the energy on this thing is so infectious.
Favourites: Kill the Poor, Let's Lynch the Landlord, Chemical Warfare, California Über Alles, I Kill Children, Stealing People's Mail Holiday in Cambodia, Viva Las Vegas.
