haunting dissonance, unnerving rhythm, the soft greyness of the sky envelops me and takes me sweetly into its arms where i rest, comfortably cold
i had never heard of hannah frances before this album, but i am going to be catching up on all the time i missed without her music coasting alongside me, i like this album very much so. i adore the abstraction of her rhythm and the way her voice floats over almost ghostly, but with an earthen strength. this accompanied with her lyrics that draw ... read more
owiieeee might be one of my favs of the year so far. listened on the train so intently the ticket instructor had to really work to get my attention. let me get my gripes out of the way first: i think the narration was almost entirely unnecessary, these tracks are well composed enough to conjure a story and narrate the journey through music alone, i think it weakened the project in my opinion but i can be forgiving of this because i understand what they were going for. to be honest though i ... read more
was really funny to see how this skyrocketed on aoty as someone who has heard of them before from their previous EP release. this album is super enjoyable to listen to ! some really nice melodic ideas, talented musicians, lead vocalist fuckin rocks. there are definitely highs and lows in the passage of the album as an entity, i think the second half definitely drags. There are some tracks i feel are stellar, including 'For Ella' 'Chemicals' and 'Cardinal' (though i'm definitely biased because i ... read more
fun for a while but i'll be honest kind of boring and very forgettable, sorryyyyyyyyy
sounds 'nice' and also like every other loving song i've ever heard, which isn't necessarily a bad thing it is very easy on the ears and pretty sounding, however it sounds almost indistinguishable from every other piece of their discography and leaves me feeling a little disappointed. it feels like they've created a specific sound that does make it easy to discern them from others but they can't really escape this little box they've confined themselves to. be brave and put ur boots on and ... read more
A fun listen, didn't super stand out to me but it kept me entertained on a two hour bus drive : ) would give more thoughts but it has been a little since i listened and i do not remember enough sorry
A gentle, swaying and melancholy listen, i like the atmosphere this album produces as a body of work; however i feel as if no songs on this project particularly Stood Out to me. it's a nice listen, but it probably isn't something that will stand the tests of my sporadic memory. I probably liked slime the best out of all the songs on here, the rest was fairly forgettable. But still a nice listen :)
i've encountered fuubutsushi from a previous album, which at the time i remember enjoying a fair amount, but i think this specific project came to me at the right time. it literally feels like spring unravelling like a ribbon of road in front of you, the cool river water glistening in a slowly warming sun, listening to this at the tail end of winter brightened this imagery tenfold. I really enjoy the improvisational feel to a lot of these tracks, a steady flowing stream unbound by a solidness ... read more
took a while to feel brave enough to venture into this project given the context, really hard listen, but some seriously beautifully crafted soundscapes from someone so young, the project pulls together so beautifully, really really good stuff, i only wish the writer were here to see how revered their project was.
enjoyable!! didn't super stand out for me but i found the songs catchy and easy to listen to, fun little album
honestly loved this, so different from their other albums that it carves it's own unique place within their discography. warm, vibrant, nostalgic and reflective, im a big fan of this album as a whole, on an individual level maybe the songs are less memorable or recognisable as their previous works, but i enjoyed how this came together as a project to create a very specific feeling of looking back. love
been on a bit of a dungeon synth adventure at the moment and i recognise i have not dived far enough to know where this album sits amongst its fellows, but i personally really enjoyed the compositions in this. perhaps it isn't the most adventurous, but i felt really wrapped and comforted by the synth scapes created, just a very enjoyable listen :)
