This is way too good for being gooner music, especially the drops like holy SHIT.
I saw the direction Penelope was trying to take with Water Dogs, but I think it landed up in an in between space musically between the rawness of her early work and her cleaner style. This feels like the natural progression of the other side, and it's debatably better than her early work, shockingly. Incredibly overhated artist.
wtf. this is insanely good. feels very brat to me, but more succinct and punchy in the best way possible. This fucks unbelievably hard.
Incredible highs, above average lows.
Highs:
classic j dies and goes to hell part 1
bedroom community
neon glow
cold weather
glass beach

yoshi's island

headboard is one of the most nihilistically haunting songs I've ever heard. Travis is genuinely one of the most diverse artists of all time. Memphis rap, electronic, metal, noise, ambient, shoegaze, sampledelia, dream pop, jazz rap, musique concrete, sound collage, the list is fucking endless. I'm really glad he's taking a break, and this song is definitely proof UNEVEN COMPROMISE isn't going to be his magnus opus forever, necessarily, I think, which is weird considering ... read more
The mixing on this song is beautiful, I think the drums overpowering Isaacs voice is an excellent decision overall. It's an incredibly apt and beautiful metaphor for the discordant relationship portrayed through the album. The fact that the drummer plays whilst ignoring the other instruments, becoming progressively more and more desperate, trying to overpower and drown out everything else is amazing. Isaac's belting is unreal, too, and it has some of his best songwriting on the album, ... read more
I like this a lot. The way it builds and retracts in incredibly satisfying. It has the ability to progress from an admittedly annoying-ass sample to being unironically very fun and peculiar.
Small dip in the middle prevents the worst album of all time from being a 10/10. This is still in the incubator to see if those songs can be justified though because they're not even bad.
All of these songs are 10/10, they're all so damn fun and creative. Also, Happier Than Ever is a complete realization of that song, and is the best possible rendition. The gang vocals during the chorus and Charlie's voice gotta be seen on an LP bro please.
One of the best songs of all time, and easily the best music video I've ever watched. The fact that it was made by a non-conglomerate artist is a fucking travesty. Incredibly fun to listen to, every part feels like a natural transition from the previous, and it's just an amazing listen.
Such a fun and controlled tune, I really couldn't ask for any more. I'd say this lives up to the excellence of Burbank House and Laced Up. Hopefully we don't have to wait 3 years for another single.
