Fuck. Yes.
This thing is awesome. the last strokes album sounded like grey mixed with brown. This album however, sounds like the entire rainbow got squished into one album and is now beaming into the listener's eyes through Albert, Nick, and Nikolai's kickass guitar playing. i love this album. holy fuck this thing is awesome. the colorful production of Angles makes for some of the most lively, fastpaced, exhilrating songs that the strokes have ever made. this thing feels and sounds like the rainbow. not only is there a rainbow of instrumentation, but also in the feeling of these albums. sure, there's the usual electrifying alternative rock sound of the strokes present on songs like Under Cover of Darkness, Taken For A Fool and Metabolism, but then there's songs like Two Kinds of Happiness and Life Is Simple In The Moonlight, which have these beautiful swelling synths and guitars. the guitars on the chorus of Two Kinds of Happiness are just UUUGHHHHHHHHHH YES FUCK YES. this album has so many glimmering high points. the third chorus on Machu Pichu where Jules is basically screaming, the fastpaced guitars on You're So Right, and the synths on Games are a few high points. And then there's the song Call Me Back, which might just be one of the most heavenly, beautiful, amazing strokes song ever. This song is beautiful. im not even gonna explain why, just litsen to it and yyoull see why i hold it in such high accolades. God I fucking love this album. if theres one negative thing i have to say about this album is that some of the songs can feel really derivative. Songs like Gratisfaction just sound like bootlegs of old hard rock bands. other than that though, this album is amazing. this album is what the rainbow sounds like. and goddamn, if this is what the rainbow sounds like i might just turn gay.
